Would you take the two years left on DeMarre Carroll's deal if the Raptors include their 1st round pick in this year's draft, currently 21st?

there has to be a better why to acquire a #1 than take on $30mm of this bad contract

Well, what is the opportunity cost? What will we be missing out on that would be more valuable? And even if there is something more valuable that should arise, we could always use the stretch provision to waive his salary. After all, Dolan made a record of $126 million in profit last season so he'd have the money to easily eat that contract. To be frank, we'd have the ability to eat a couple more of those types of contracts if necessary.

Yeah, I'm thinking the Raptors are definitely willing to do it too. Kyle Lowry, Serge Ibaka and Patrick Patterson are all free agents they are looking to re-sign, which could cost them in excess of $70 million per year to retain. With Demarre Derozan and Jonas Valencuinas in tow on a $103 million cap, they'd easily exceed the cap and end up with a luxury tax bill that could be unprecedented. So I definitely think the Raptors will dump Carroll this season for that pick and possibly a little more if a team were willing to do it. The only competition for that offer might be the Nets who have a phletora of money available and no one to take it. And considering their pick situation moving forward, it makes too much sense for them not to be interested in this type of deal.

Definitely. This is a pretty deep draft; totally worth it to get more picks.

Do you have any prospect in mind that you'd target in the early 20s range?

I'm going off of DraftExpress' mock. They have OG Anunoby going 17th; if he drops a couple of spots to 21 I definitely pick him up. If he's gone I'd be looking at Justin Jackson or Luke Kennard. Harry Giles is also a possibility, currently ranked 18th, but we'd have to have done a ****load of work on him beforehand.

I should mention that I know nothing about any of the international guys.

We're in a spot where it's going to be difficult to get FA to come here for a few years anyway. Two years of Carroll is not bad at all, because it syncs up with Melo's contract being up and probably the next time we will be major FA players.

To be honest, I only know of the guys projected to be lottery picks but have become interested in how things may shape up in the 2nd half of the first round. There are so many teams with multiple picks now that I suspect one would be inclined to move a pick in return for immediate help. We've got a lot of veterans that might be able to sway those teams into making a deal but I have no idea who I'd want. I think from what I've seen on Draftexpress, Jackson and Kennard are a start. I'm not nearly as intrigued by Anounby or Giles.

Terrence Furgeson has intrigued me most though. I'd draft him and bring him along slowly, then stash him in the D-League for a year. Once his body fills out and he gets acclimated to the speed of the game I think his floor could be Justin Holiday in his 2nd season.

Ferguson is an American playing overseas? That always makes me nervous; I wanted nothing to do with Jennings or Mudiay when they were drafted. I like Anunoby because he's supposed to be a very good defender and if he can improve his jumper (a risk since he's only shooting 58% on FT) he could be really valuable. Giles hasn't done anything this year but he's had several bad knee injuries that he's recovering from. He might never amount to anything but he's worth a shot with a late 1st rounder.

My vote is Josh Hart with any late rd pick. There is something interesting about a guard who has never avg. under 55% shooting in 2pt FG%. kennard is really intriguing but he reminds me of Staukas when he had a breakout sophomore year but Kennard is an older sophomore player. I worry about Kennard getting separation on the nba level.
