The question is how much would you give up to trade into the top 3 in the draft to get one of those mentioned?? I would have to think in the least it will cost us this years 1st rounder, a future 1st rounder and maybe even more. A lot of these draft experts are saying that the 2018 draft will not be a strong draft at all so would you give up our 2018 1st rounder and more to move up for a top PG in this draft??

Also, has anyone heard much about this guy??

He's supposedly a really good PG who's put up really good numbers in europe.

Even in 2015 we needed a point guard or defensive wing next to Melo. Many wanted Mudiay or Winslow. We went with best talent available and we made a great call.

In 2017 it should be no different. Teams have drafted Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone, Giannis, Kawahi Leonard type of talent where the Knicks are going to draft. I'm not concerned about draft position. I hope we do our homework, and draft the best talante available. From what I've seen of the draft, and I'm no expert, I think after the top 8, the best talent could be a forward/wing. An athletic player who can play the 3 and some 4. That is likely the best player talent wise you'd get after the top 8 picks looking at the current mocks.

The idea is to LOSE GAMES.

Knick are 2.5 games behind the Magic for 4th worst record.

They're 3 games out of the 8th seed.

So they're closer to the 4th pick in the draft, than the 8th seed in the playoffs. Would you rather get swept and blown out by Cleveland or get an elite PG prospect in the draft?

Knicks should shut down Melo and Rose for extended periods in the last 30 games. I would tell Rose we're moving in a different direction and waive him so he can join a playoffs roster, if possible. We won't get anything in a trade for Rose.

I understand that there's good players in this draft at other positions besides PG but the need for a stud PG is much bigger and i wouldn't make a bad trade to get in the top 3 but i would do a good trade to get there. There's some good SF's and PF's in this draft that i'd be happy with if we can't get top 3.

Trading up in the NBA draft lottery is almost always a lose/lose proposition.

It's worth if there is a Shaq, a Tim Duncan, or a LBJ, a close to as a can't miss player as there can be. The bane of that is if it's a can't miss type player, no team would trade you the pick in the first place. The virtue of being able to acquire the pick is often an indicator of the volatility of said draft.

The Knicks don't just need talent, they need a lot of it. Trading future assets is a bad way to protect the future.

If you look at current depth charts in the NBA, effective PG play can be found originating from all over the draft board. Isaiah Thomas 2 was the last pick of the 2nd round of his draft. Teague was a late first round pick. Tony Parker was a late first round pick. Certainly there are high picks like Chris Paul, but you don't need to spend a lottery pick to get effective PG help in the league

Biggest issues

1) Can the player defend, at minimum, his own position at the NBA replacement level?

2) Can the player either defend the rim or guard the wing at the NBA level?

3) Can the player create his own shot consistently?

4) Can the player hit a three point shot at an elite NBA rate of production?

To me, those issues are more critical that just focusing on the PG position, if it happens to be a PG, great, but if not, that's ok too. You take the best player available and let the draft come to you.

I'd like to draft the BPA but we really can't afford to draft a PF if melo stays and with porzingis already on the team. With any other position I agree you have to pick the BPA.

On the big IF, that Melo is not traded off the roster, he has NEVER moved well off the ball. A point guard, a traditional one, is utterly useless if the "star player" cannot move well off the ball. Melo is a ball stopping iso chucker with poor shot selection and freezes his team mates out. You could put Magic Johnson in there and it would not matter. Magic would throw a pass and Melo would not be there or where he was supposed to be.

This is why I pushed very hard for the Knicks to trade down in the Zinger draft and take Devin Booker ( ability to be a combo guard, good 3 point shooter, can develop into creating his own shot, ability to improve defensively, ability to play the wing and play off the ball)

Hornacek, if he stays, run a "Four Out" system, meaning he uses a Stretch 5 to bomb from long range and uses combo guards to press and attack. To run his offense, you need depth to include 4 guys who can play the point guard/shooting guard position interchangeably. The league is moving away from the "traditional" point guard position. Can you hit a three point shot effectively? Can you defend the perimeter as a wing? These are more critical factors for winning than just someone to lob the ball and set the half court offense for the team.

NOTHING will help Melo. He has no desire to play team basketball. He refuses to put effort on defense. He simply wants to pad his stats and live in NY.

The Knicks desperately need help on the wing. If you want to see Zinger succeed, the Knicks need to get Melo off the roster and find a pivot who can defend the rim and drop a long range three point shot to take the burden off of Zinger to lock in as a Stretch 5.
