Why do Elton Brand's teams never make the playoffs? I know he hasn't had the most talented teammates, but you'd think a PF who was such a force on both ends of the court (and has had some fairly good teammates like Q-Rich, Lamar Odom, Andre Miller) would at least make the playoffs once

If you notice, Brand never had that center to compliment him in the frontcourt. He have Kaman now so he put up good numbers last year. Clippers are just inexperienced for the playoffs and in the reg. season...they are still the Clippers. It is the whole team concept. Sterling just don't give his teams a chance to stay together long enough to grow. He started last year by signing Maggette and Brand to long term contracts.

to me its simple.... he's never been in a winning situation. Every year in LAC there are key guys playing to earn their way off that team. Add terrible coaching and injuries and players just too young its not a good situation. There are no veterans that know how to win NBA games because once you turn 21 you usually bolt Clipper land. Then take a guy like Odom.. he missed 50 games a year, gets busted and suspended repeatedly for pot, and when he leaves the Clippers he plays a full season and posts all star numbers.

I'm sure if the Heat got Brand (remember he was their first offer) they would be just as good is not better.

when they had a good team, most of the players were in contract year, which ruined the chemistry.

I think a good veteran like Kittles will help them, although I'm not sure if he'll help enough to push them into the playoffs. They could use a good veteran frontcourt player

Bonn, you mean like Dampier? Dampier and Brand would make a formidable duo.

Clippers didn't want to trade Wilcox before, i don't see them making that deal...they don't need KT's contract taking up cap space for the next 4 years.

Nazr & Sweetney for Wilcox & filler they might consider though, but that's a deal the Knicks probably won't do either.

actually I had no intention of being realistic :)

Wilcox will be there to stay, and its Brand that will be on his way out... mark my words. If Wilcox continues to get better Brand will be a trade deadline casualty... trust me. Sterling had to resign him, but if he can move him for picks and something more budget friendly its a done deal.

that's an idea. yet i don't see them trading brand only for that package. he's a bruiser, lowpost player, legit 20/10. rare thing in this league.

we don't have a lot of things them may want.

i'd never do that trade either, if sweet can be a legit 17 and 8 player in the next 3-4 years which i think is verrrry possible, why do it? elton brand is a few years older, and we lose a #1 pick, so we lose more youth, and TT can score 19 a game when playing over 15 mins. besides brand has a bigggggg contract.

I'd want to wait to see how Sweetney develops before deciding on that trade. Sweetney could be a 17/8 player, but I don't think he's athletic enough to be the force on defense that Brand is.

If the Hornets are out of the playoff race in the *west* next year and Mashburn has to retire, I could see them doing a Magloire/Mashburn trade for TT/Nazy. We're giving up 2 starters for 1, but I think it would be worth it to get Magloire and you can play Penny and JYD at SF. This trade would make sense only if we don't get Dampier obviously.
Does anyone know what Magloire's contract is? It's mysteriously not listed on hoopshype

you guys are funny...you turn down deals for young players in their prime based on the fact that they have big contracts, yet go crazy over signing young, unproven guys to longterm deals.

so i guess you would rather have TT & Sweetney than a guy like K-Mart too? if you ask me, Elton Brand is the more complete PF than K-Mart, & i LOVE K-Mart...i think i would give up a future pick to get Brand in that package.

to each their own i guess...i'll never understand the reasoning on this board...it's so inconsistent sometimes.

No way the Hornets are trading Magloire. And no way can you really consider Nazr a starter.

You love players until you become a lottery team. That's what happened with Steph last year in Phoenix. I think they'd love to get rid of the $30 mil they're paying Mashburn to retire, esp if they're going to be a lottery team in the west even with Magloire anyway.
