Pick #10 is the benchmark lowest we can land. Here is why:

There are considered to be 12 elite prospects in this draft. 12 that would be top 5 or 6 picks in a regular draft.

PG Fultz
PG Ball
SF Jackson
PG Smith
SF Isaac
SG Monk
SF Tatum
PF Markannen
PF Giles
PG Ntilikina
PG Fox
SF Bridges

When you look at the various draft ranking sites, it's pretty much consensus that these are the 12 elite prospects. After them, it varies to whom belongs, but it's a bunch of PF/C types who we really don't have a need for. No back-court players at all. So if we land top 12, we should get one of these players. But the reason i say top 10 is essential, is because 2 of these players (Markannen and Giles) are PFs, a position we really don't have a need for. If we land in the top 10, we are guaranteed the ability to draft an elite prospect at a position of need, either a PG, SG, or SF. A player who should be good enough to be a long-term starting player at that position if developed properly. This draft is extremely important to the long-term health of the franchise. We have KP and Willy as the long-term front-court. As long as we land one of these 10 players at a position of need, i think the franchise will take a major step forward.

Knicks are 1.5 games out of the playoff picture and 3 games out of 4th worst in the league. Next 2 drafts are supposed to be good.

I'd trade Melo, KOQ and maybe LT/Lee for picks and young players on decent contracts to ensure a top 3 this year and a decent pick next year.

Yeah you almost have to fully commit in order to make sure this team can get one of these really talented guards. If Phil doesn't make trades then this team is more than likely going to win just enough to put them out of the running for what we need for the long term future of the team. That makes zero sense. I pray that the Knicks have talked about that and are seriously looking to make trades that can ensure the Picks we need.

Getting both Ball & Jackson would be ideal but we'd have to get the Brooklyn pick back which unfortunately I don't see happening.

Martin with the Tank!

I don't think we can trade Melo- but I agree.

And I don't know that we have to - we're losing just fine with him on the roster!

And with the exception of him sometimes ball stopping - I don't mind keeping him around until he opts out - just hope we encourage that and do not extend him!

Id go Malik Monk and Jru Holiday--our team will be vastly improved. I have Monk at 2--other than Faultz---I think D smith =Steve Francise--great player but Holiday is steady. Monk is the scorer we replace Melo with.

Briggs I don't follow college hoops. Who in the draft is the defense first, distributing point guard. I've heard Ball is a distributor and big but don't know about D. Is there a Billups- or Payton- type in the draft?

I would love that. I don't think we will be bad enough for Monk, but he would be a great fit. I think we get Fox or Ntilikina, or if we miss out on an elite PG, Miles Bridges has a ton of upside at SF with his athleticism, shooting, finishing, and passing.

Both Fox and Ntilikina (from france) are big, athletic PGs with great defensive upside.

If we can't make any trades maybe Gaines can get us another euro player in the PG spot. One player that has peaked my interest is Milos Teodosic. A 6'5" PG from Serbia. Last year he was voted best non-NBA player in the world by NBA coaches.

I don't think we can arch the suns, layers (they have a strong incentive to finish with a top 3 pick, if they don't they lose this year's first AND 2019s) and nets. Best we can aim for is 4th or 5th and hope we jump in the lottery

You know what's funny, with the exception of a couple of players, the top 10 picks in the last 4 drafts are all currently on lottery teams..I'm not sure why this doesn't concern anyone.

If you have been paying attention, Phil will never draft a player out of college with out 4 yrs of experience.. See early, see grant..plus he made it perfectly clear a while ago

Ntilikina is a very interesting draft prospect. Have watched him on YT and he would fit nicely into our Euro-centric team.

KP was 19? The best players are the young guys---it doesnt take a rocket scientist--there are game changing players in this draft--if I were Phil I dump carmelo--right now all I want is a reasonable pick and his cap space and try to lose the last 29 games--we need to suck down the stretch conserve kp.

Yeah he has a ton of upside, but may be a little more of a risk than someone like Fox. Also, he is still only 18 years old. I know we want to be patient, but he might be a few years away from being a starting PG. Fox looks ready to contribute. But i would be happy with either.

It takes awhile for these guys to learn how to win. Most of these guys will be 24-25 years old minimum before they are leading playoff caliber teams.

It's imperative that we get a top 10 pick
