It's unfortunate that Boston probably won't deal the Nets pick and that's the only 1st round pick they have this year. Jaylen Brown is an interesting option due to his upside. Maybe we get next year's pick (the one from Boston, not the Nets.) I don't see us getting much more from them though. Is Brown, a 2018 1st round pick (Boston pick) and expiring contracts enough for everyone?

What did Boston do with their own 2017 1st round pick?
Boston has a lot of young players i'd love to see on the Knicks in J.Brown, A.Bradley, M.Smart, J.Crowder, T.Rozier, K.Olynyk and a ton of draft picks so they're definitely a team i want to deal with even if it's a 3 team deal.

I just listened to a podcast with Chris Mannix. He put the odds of Melo being a knick after the deadline at 25%. In regards to Boston he said Smart and Crowder would probably be in the deal. He said the celts have to break up that back court. He also said Melo would replace Crowder and that Phil still has regrets about not taking Crowder.

I suppose that would be good tho I would think some would want more given Melo pushes Boston higher and maybe more competitive with the Cavs. Boston should not play cheap on this one.

Boston's pick this year is a swap with Brooklyn. Brooklyn couldn't trade every pick to Boston because of the every other year rule, so they gave them right to swap on the off-years. Such a crazy, lop-sided deal.

I agree, the problem is, who is Boston competing against for Melo? Cavs and Clippers have absolutely nothing to trade us, that they want to trade us at least.

Just saw that the Knicks are willing to trade Melo to the Clippers without getting any of their big 3 back. It said we'd get JJ.Reddick, J.Crawford and A.Rivers.

I would be furious if we get Crawford - his contract is awful. Reddick said he didn't like ny last time he was traded but you could pass him on to another team for a pick (he's expiring). Rivers is not worth taking on Crawford for. Awful trade.
I'm happy with any Boston deal- picks or players I'd be happy with either.

Any trade with Boston would have to include Amir Johnson's contract. Johnson, Crowder and Smart works contract wise. Not sure if Boston would actually trade all that and a pick for Melo.
EDIT: Actually, this would work...
Melo, Holiday, Plumlee
for
Amir Johnson, Smart, Crowder, 1st round pick.

I think what we all have to keep in mind with any Melo trade is that teams won't trade much for him because of his age and that he's offense only (pretty much) and just getting rid of the rest of his contract which is $54 million over the next two years is the biggest thing for us. We'd have that money and the money from Rose and Jennings after this year so i wouldn't look at what we're getting back as much as getting rid of that contract. Now of course any young players and draft picks are valuable but getting rid of his contract along with Rose's is huge for rebuilding around KP.

Of course it is but it's not happening. It's to bad we couldn't trade Melo and Rose to the Clippers so Rose can fill in for C.Paul who's out for 6-8 weeks and he could play some SG when he does return but i they'd have to trade Blake to take on both of those contracts and the other players mentioned.
Hopefully as soon as other teams see teams are interested in trading for Melo a 3rd team can get involved and we can come away with young players and a 1st round draft pick.

We'd have to trade Rose first, because Blake and Rose are both Max Rookie exception players or something - meaning they both qualify for max deals worth 30% of the cap, rather than the traditional 25%. And it's a rule you can't have two of those on a roster.

I imagine we'd immediately try to flip Crawford and maybe Reddick to playoffs teams for picks?
for what? Those guys strike me as expiring contract fodder. I would not touch that deal without draft picks and good ones coming back.
At least with Love you get a nice asset you can move (and I would).
Yeah, I'd move the Love contract for assets, too. I still think that Boston/Cavs/Knicks three way makes a lot of sense.
But also every team in the league is looking for shooters. Reddick is absolutely worth a first round pick (I might even keep him and try to move CLee). Crawford might be worth a first rounder to the right team, or at least a young prospect/second rounder.
Those guys are very flippable.
That Clippers deal is clearly the worst on the table though. Hopefully Phil can do better if he's dead set on doing this.

Stop acting like we haven't talked about all the possible scenarios.... who cares what the daily news says. We know what works. We know the salaries.
I believe something will happen. Just don't fall for the set up.... the media is going to spin any deal as a disaster because you can't get equal value for Melo. Hooping players, cap and picks... that's all we need
