I think we may have competition for starting backcourts (2 out of our 3 guards), but to match up to all 3 would be very tough...

Good topic IMHO.

I think the east is really tough in the backcourt.

Francis and Mobley, Payton and Ricky, Rip and Chancey, Tinsley and Jackson, Wade and Jones, Rafer and Jalen

There are a few tandems out there. There are still teams like Clev and the Bucks that have good guards on their teams in the East.

I'm Glad we can put a mixture of Craw, Marbs, and Houston out there. We can at least compete with the rest of the east....not too many can compete with the Knicks.

thats what all these changes will come down too... we have good talent, and a considerable talent upgrade from the start of last year. We got younger, and more skilled and more athletic. Lets see how they play together. Crawford isnt going to be the bal hog some think.. it wont fly on a veteran team.

Last years goal was to make the playoffs. It was a fair goal and we did that.

This year our goal should be to win the Atlantic. For us to do this everyone will be on the same page and have to work together. KT, Houston, TT, Penny, JYD.. we have some guys with long playoff stretchs in them, and with an understanding of what it takes.

Lenny has the bodies to push guys and force them to earn their minutes. If Crawford isnt doing what he's told there are 3 guys that will be happy to take his spot in the rotation.

I think you have a situation w/ young guys trying to prove something and older guys pushing them.

I'm pretty excited.

I agree, that three guard setup is built for a running team, only we don't have a transiton pg or pf. Stephs a half court pg and allans a half court sg. The only runners on this team would be TT and JC.

Also without a post player how do the perimeter players succeed, and visa versa.

Yes were still flawed were it maters the most, IN The post.

Practice should always be intense cuz we have Penny, Houston, Marbs, Moochie, Ariza, Craw, Shandumb.....they all wanna play and all are capable ball players.....At least we know guys will be ready come game time.

The Front court needs some pressure now.

Steph plays the running game very well; he just needs players who can run with him and he now has that with Jamal, TT, and JYD

The only team that has a better backcourt than we do (on paper, provided that Houston is healthy) is Minnesota.

Spree and Cassell? Doesn't get better than that.

But age could catch up with either or both of them at any time, so it's hard to tell...
Let it be known: I believe in the Knicks this year-- deep into the playoffs, I swear to you my brothers...

I think the Knicks have the best, just due to age and versatility, but the Spurs are close. I'd rank the three man tandem backcourts like this:

1) NYK - Marbs, Hou, Jamal
2) Spurs - Parker, Ginobli, Barry
3) Kings - Bibby, Bobby Jax, Christie
4) Twolf - Spree, Cassell, Troy
5) Memphis - JWill, Miller, Posey, Bonzi
6) Heat - Wade, Jones, Damon

There are other good ones, but those are the best IMHO.

there are tons of talented backcourts.... How about Payton and Pierce? Right now no back court had a better year the Billups and Hamilton. Its not about raw talent. We have that now.. its how and who gels. On paper Kobe and Gary should have been one of the best ever, but Phil still thought he had BJ Armstrong and forget to let Gary Payton be a PG.

I'd probably have to say the Celtics have a better backcourt than us with Paul Pierce, Payton, and Ricky Davis and maybe even Delonte West and Tony Allen can contribute some for them.

Either Ricky or Pierce will play SF for them. West and Allen are rook, so if you want to look at there backcourt, its either Pierce/Payton or Ricky/Payton. And one of the rooks of the bench. If you want to include a swing player, then we should include TT. Then compare TT/Houston/Marbury/Craw to Davis/Pierce/Payton/Allen?West.

I take TT over Davis, Marbury over Payton Pierce over Houston, and Craw over Allen/West. So its 3-1 in favor of the Knicks.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

COmparing our backcourt to the other and saying that chauncey and hamilton are as good or better is nonsense.

Those 2 from detroit could gamble on d because of their interior players (2 wallaces). THat anchor in the paint made them soooo much better than they really are.

Payton and davis, 2 ball hogs, is a joke. they can't defend, they're obsessed with stats.

On paper and talent wise, we may have the best. but what about chemsitry ? houston'health ?

IMO, the best backcourt are in no particular order

Kings - Bibby, Bobby Jackson, Christie
knicks - Marbs, Hou, Jamal
Spurs - Parker, Ginobili, Barry

vet leadership, ball iq, scoring punch, 3pts shooting, defense (especially the kings), chemistry, will to make a pass...

those guys have it all, or most of it. we're up with them, and for once, it feels good to be on the good side of the fence. at least on paper, before the season starts.

Rip hamilton is a better SG than H2O. He works very well with Billups so even though Stephon is the best player out of the 4, Detroit has a good backcourt.

If we had Jamal Crawford palying with Stephon for a year, I might say NY has a better backcourt but we unfortunately have H2O.

You know I think this notion that your wing players can be more aggressive when you have a strong interior defense is a bit overstated.

Does anyone know how Allan Houston gambles on defense?

He plays Man to Man instead of Zone!

You put a healthy allan in place of Rip on detroit and allan is going to have the same effect on defense- his man will get by him.

Sure, instead of a lay up it will be a open 15 ft j, but for talented 2s, an open 15 ft j is a lay up.

You put Chauncy and Rip on the knicks, and they'd still play aggressive d.

The knicks have in the back court right now- two players that have gone to all star games and one who might one day go. That's not a bad back court.
