Why doesn't NBA use the MLB model of minor leagues (?)

Where you can move players up and down between NBA roster
and D-League (?)

Isn't that in interest of both owners and players (?)

Not in the interest of owners unless it makes money. Tell me what owners make on the Dleagues and I bet your answer lies there, plain and simple. Bottom line $$$

Well, the D-League exists now -- so whatever the money
issues are, the owners are already accepting them.

So why not add the ability to keep a player under NBA
contract while he plays/developes/rehabs in D-League (?)

I mean just like MLB does . . .

I think it has to do with the NBAPA... Those first or second rounders make about a $1mm+ a year. Guys in the NBADL make like $30,000 a year

Hopefully some of it is negotiated in the new cba. NBA teams can have two players on their roster on assignment in the d league. Currently teams pay guys extra with non guaranteed deals more so that they can afford to play in the d l. The max salary in the dl is really low.
