I just checked hoopshype. The Knicks have even more in expiring contracts the next two summers than I realized. They have $41 mil next summer and $35 mil the following summer in expiring contracts. I can't wait to see how Isiah uses them.

(And $0.4 mil remaining this year in expiring contracts )

youve got to be more creative when building a team.. at some point the $100mm (and growing) payroll will need to be addressed.

I assume Isiah will let *some* of the expiring contracts just expire but he'll also be in a better position than this summer

I know I sound like a broken record, but we should just do what it takes to get Tyson Chandler and then replace our expiring contracts with cheaper players. I realize that Chandler may be unavailable but we should offer them TT or KT and picks to really sweeten the deal if necessary. Chandler is the missing piece to the puzzle in my opinion.

Heavy expiring contracts do not have to be traded anymore since we've significantly assembled a core already. Just let Penny go next year and let Ariza get his minutes. If TT is traded as above, sign Wesley Person or Dion Glover or whoever extra cheap. When Houston leaves, draft a back up shooting guard who can play behind Crawford. Marbury, Crawford, Ariza, Sweetney and hopefully Chandler would be our key future players. Everyone else plays for cheap.

I would like the trade for Chandler but his health problems worry me - when healthy it's easy to see that he is oozing with potential, but back problems tend to be recurring, and the type of nagging injuries that can hamper a player throughout his career. I agree that we shouldn't trade all of our big contracts, but as I stated above, i think we should resign penny because he is probably the smartest player and is one of hte most experienced, not to mention he is an excellent role player - when is the last time a team won a championship without solid role players? i doubt ariza will be ready in a few years, and if he is he can still play at the 3 if Thomas is traded. As far as getting a backup shooting guard, if we sign baker for 3 mm of the MLE we should try to sign rodney white to the remaining 2 mm for 4 years.

Go ahead, re-sign Penny if he wants to play for 2 mil a year for 3 years. The main point, that I think we agree on, is we don't need to accumulate garbage deals just for the sake of it. Rodney White is also an option, if he wants to sign for dirt cheap, I'll provide the pen.

exactly, after a certain point i think we need to let deals expire and let the team settle and work on chemistry (which is why i want to resign penny, he fits in very well with hte team and i see him as another LJ - hes clutch, was a star before injuries, knows how to win, and is a leader). I also think that we could sign white for cheap- the way the market has been working, some overrated players are signing huge deals (foyle) while underrated, young players have received little attention (white, and outside of the knicks crawford).
