Was sending $10 mil in expiring contracts for Jamal and The Junk Yard Dod a good or a bad trade for the Knicks?

Good!
We weren't going to get much from Deke, Othella, and Trybanski. I'll miss Frank and wish him the best in the windy city. But none the less, we get either another starter, or two solid bench players.
It's not like the cap space was going to help us anytime soon.

Who is our center? KT? Damp hasnt signed yet - and even if he does he might not bring much to the table.

I think we gave up too much....I wanted to see FWill play more.

The idea of Crawford and Marbury on the floor sounds interesting...but if H20 is healthy how much of that will we really see?

Lots of questions, no answers yet. Lets get this season started.

One last thing...is Lenny the guy to coach this team? Hmmmmm.

Good Trade.Isiah and Wilkens, two hall of fame guards will teach him the right way to play the guard position. At least Frank is returning to Illinois where he played college ball and should be warmly welcomed by the fans especially after the way he stood up to Kidd in the playoffs.

good, but just barely and ONLY if it doesn't prevent us from adding more pieces for `04-`05... in other words: GET DAMP!

Fantastic (but I chose good since that was the only positive option). We gave up very little and got a lot

despite my signature I'm wait and see for everything. I think it will take a legit 2-3 years to really turn this team around (based on how LAyden left it)

What I like is we clearly got the best player (if not two best players) in the trade. We get Crawford at a reasonable rate. The player and contract I compare him to is Rip Hamilton. They have almost identical deals. Rip takes better shots but doesnt have Crawford's range or explosiveness. Craw is a better ball handler, Rip is much more polished. Both are average defenders, but Rip has learned to use his quicknes and length to be disruptive.

Hey, we got younger and we got a player with great upside.

I also like Frank, but so far the best things you can say about him are he beat out Ward and Eisley and he shoved Jason Kidd without getting a T.

Isiah got bent over the barrel again. He gave up too much and is overpaying in money and years for Crawford.

Gotta give Paxson some credit, he stuck to his guns and got everything that he wanted.

It's a good trade in terms of talent given up and talent acquired, but the NBA is also about cap room and finances, so the trade can't really be assessed in isolation. We have to see what other deals go down.

I wouldn't do a sign and trade for Dampier in which the Knicks give him a six or seven year contract, and they take back Evan Eschemeyer's horrible contract.

But if Damp signs for the MLE, it makes this deal look better.

dont stop with Paxson... give the whole Bulls organization credit for all the great moves they have made over the last 6 years.

Isiah is paying less for Craw then Gilbert Arenas, Richardson, Ginobili... all recently signed. He gave him the same contract Rip Hamilton got.

Paxson got everything he wanted? Yes... I cant wait to hear his press conference. "Frank will compete w/ Chris Duhon for the back up PG role." Lets hear about his big plans for Deke and Othella and the real steal of the trade Trabinski (we hardly even knew yee).

LOL... dude, your actually funny.

Actually he wanted the extra cap room to re-sign Curry and Chandler, he wanted to have enough cap space to be able to sign a free agent next year, he wanted to clear a roster spot to allow Gordon and Heinrich to get as much playing time as possible and he wanted to get rid of Crawford's me-first attitude away from all the young guys. Sounds like he accomplished all of that to me.

thats funny, then pax hasnt been talking to his "cap specialist." He wont be under the cap unless he renounces Curry and Chandler's rights. If he does that he cant resign both of them. Either way they are both restricted FAs so he doesnt have to do anything. He can just let other teams dictate their value and opt to match or not match. All this trade did was save him $12mm on Jerome's contract.

Wow these things are messing with my mind. Last I remember the yes's had a 16-2 edge, then someone brings up the Bulls/Knicks trade poll and the no's have a 15-14 edge. Took a minute to get everything straightened out.

Its true. The legend of Frank Williams rings solemn through the walls of the Garden. Frank was an enraged beast out there, a real wild animal. He savagely popped Kidd in the chest and maybe contributed to his knee injury somehow. He let loose on unsuspecting Richard Jefferson, almost battering the poor fool, before the refs got in the way (unfortunately). Frank was truly inspirational. But, who was next? The annoying red head, Scalabrine? Kenyon himself? Now, we'll never know...

Unfortunately, that's the best tribute I can offer Old Frankie. Yeah, the one we knew and loved. Look, Frank was a nice diversion during the annihilation we suffered last post-season. And thats about it. Maybe, if we're lucky, he'll do us a lasting favor and sock Shandon on the way out.

Anyone who finds this trade to be bad is really being pessimistically foolish. J Craw led a team in scoring last year, had 5 assists a game, and is an exciting player. He has scored 50 points in this league and has been called the second fastest player behind Allen Iverson. Imagine the two man game Stephan and Jamal will be playing, with Stephan becoming a combo guard as well. Imagine next summer when a player is looking to move to a new team and we have TWO point guards playing. Two point guards who are being tutored by Lenny and Isiah who have both won championships at PG. Come on now!

And I've watched Jerome Williams play for years and have always loved his game. He is an uber Anthony Bonner. He is high energy, smart, a great team player. This is a guy who two years ago almost averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds. And splitting time with a fellow Georgetown Alum at PF? It's almost too good to be true. Jerome has also played Center and Small Forward in situations.

What did we give up? Three expiring contracts that we could have used on another player? Chris Mullin had already said he didn't want Othella and Nazr. Frank Williams was nice, but there's a reason he was drafted 25th and averaged 4 points and 2 assists in his second year in the league. He is a good, solid player but what we got in return outweighs all of that.

Complain if you want, but Isiah has already made the most intelligent upgrade in talent in NY since I don't even know when. I'd say 98 but Oakley for Camby wasn't a good move. And Dampier wants to be here too, like whattttt!

It's only 10% of Knick fans complaining. And that's a reasonable base rate. There's been a similar 10% base rate during the Yankees amazing run since 1996. That ten percent will complain *regardless* of what happens with the team. It's just their personalities.

You really think this poll stuff is scientific don't you? That's some sample you have there. Care to explain why 15 out of 29 people thought it was a bad deal to include Othella for Moochie with Shandon and E-Rob also being thrown in? Unless those same people really object to a straight up Shandon for E-Rob deal. Right, that must be it.

I really dont see anyone complaining besides you. Chi got worse, we got better. You wont like anything this GM does which is sad. The team you say your a fan of is getting better but you cant lay off your bitter pickle juice.

The Knicks were a winning (albeit only slightly above .500) with Isiah despite a myriad of trades and injuries. Once again the talent on their roster has been upgraded, and your even more miserable. Poor fella.

My previous post on Frank wasn't meant to be a knock on Frank as much as a criticism of those that think we lost a great talent in FW.
To summarize my feelings on Frank - as Bill Clinton once said to Monica - "Yeah that was nice, but you should get going now."
