Not sure it will change too much. If you have a weak ft shooter on the court, and you pass him the ball, he will be fouled. If you don't pass him the ball, well, then you're playing 4 on 5, and are at a disadvantage.

It shouldn't be call a fall... this should be called a hug... and refs should let it go...

Yup...In my former profession this would be like making the state tests easier because students are being promoted in lower grades when they shouldn't be.

I also find the pre-inbound pass foul particularly strange...basically means you can't be aggressive or apply pressure on an inbound pass, even if you are not doing it to deliberately foul someone.

Can anyone give me a reason for the inbound pass rule?

I thought that was always supposed to be considered a foul- the refs just swallowed their whistles, especially in the last few minutes of a game.

Except this is entertainment, and very different. It was making the game less entertaining to watch for fans, so steps were taken.

Don't get me wrong...I hate having to watch it, and it makes the game boring, but it amazes me that players, whose job is to put a ball in a "basket," cannot practice enough to develop an acceptable foul shot.

Also have to say that its almost like a match-up situation. You make a player change to exploit the particular weakness of an opponent's player, and the opposition coach then has to make a player switch, which might mean removing an "entertaining" offensive minded player who sucks on D. On a basic level, the hack a __
strategies are exploiting an opponent's weakness.

It is also says something about the coaches who train young players.

Rick Barry will still talk your ear off about foul shooting and how he finds it amazing that poor FT shooters are not willing to use his underhanded FT technique.

But did it always mean a FT and getting the ball back...my memory is a bit fuzzy on this for some reason.
