#5 Kobe

#4 McGrady

#3 V. Carter

#2 LeBron

and number one is .......

#1 Melo

Pierce : If I had to single one guy out who is the most difficult player to guard in the league, it would have to be Carmelo. He’s a unique blend of being big, strong, and athletic while also having a world-class shooting touch and a natural ability to get to the rim. That’s what sets him apart — every facet of his game is elite.

Some great players will have one or two particular skills that make them special. But Carmelo can do everything, which puts you in a baaad situation as a defender. A lot of guys might shoot better from certain areas, so you try to force them elsewhere on the floor. Carmelo doesn’t have a spot on the floor where he can’t consistently hit shots.

In my opinion, his combination of physicality and shooting touch is unmatched in the NBA. You can’t take one second off when you’re matched up against him.

Kobe is one of the best scorers in NBA history, but I don’t have as much trouble with him in the post as I do with Carmelo. LeBron is a great post-up player, but if you get him to settle for the jumper on some nights, you might be able to slow him down if his shot is off. That’s not the case with Melo. If you give him space to shoot, he’ll make it many more times than he misses it.

To put it plainly, he’s not a fun assignment on defense.

But then again, none of these guys are.

That makes Kobe, Paul Pierce and (I believe) LeBron that regard Melo as the toughest cover they've ever faced. That certainly carries a great deal of weight. It's a damn shame that we've consistenty failed to surround such a talented ball player with capable talent. At this point, it might be too little too late but Melo (and fans) have deserved better these past 5-6 years

Ive been saying this for a while, but one of the things that sets him apart is his jumper AND his bully ball post game. We havent seen much of the latter, which i think brings down his effectiveness quite a bit.

Then guys say Melo is over paid and the whole bit... all his teammates say he's a leader. All his peers say he's tough to guard. He's been a decent defender and passer the last few years. He's a top nba talent

Agree. Throw in the overrated -just a gunner crap.

He's always been a good rebounder and a underrated defender besides being a multi dimensional scorer. People somewhat forget him leading Syracuse to a NCAA title as a frosh, turning around a Denver franchise and being a lead player on Olympic teams in 08 and 12 that won Gold. He aint LeBron or Kobe or even Wade but he competes nightly and has been one of the better NBA talents for a long time

And this is why I find it so peculiar when guys like LeBron and Durant get vilified for seeking out "superteams". Because the only accolade Melo does not have is a NBA championship, yet members of this very board will characterize him as "a loser" as if teammates are irrelevant to the conversation.

Not really, got a few haters but masses like him.
Stars are accountable for winning and when they are not, they are the face of the franchise.
Hype has built carmelo into more than he is. Don't get me wrong, he is HOF bound and on par with many that have no rings.
Thing is, he has not been a staple of the post season. While not to blame, its just how things are in the hype machine.
I thought Ewing was pretty much appreciated both then and now. He is considered to be knick royalty. Not knicks fault he has not been a head coach and his Orlando and Seattle venture did tarnish his finish, but not his knick legacy. Not sure he should be considered greater than Reed or Frazier. Outside of those two, he is considered the greatest knick.

Haters will hate, but that is a loud minority or fan.
