Vin Baker is due back from vacation and is expected to sign his contract as early tomorrow. A source confirmed the Knicks used their $1.6 million exception to keep him and hold a team option for a second year.

QUOTE

Well this is a relief. He doesnt get in the way in case Dampier takes the MLE, and it seems we havnt committed to anything longterm.

If this turns out to be the deal, I realy admire Baker for his unselfishness. He know hes getting the money from the Celts anyway, and hes staying with the team that gave him a chance.

Lets hope he still remembers how to play like the ALl-star he was.

We don't have to trade Kurt and Nazr for Damps if Warriors don't want sign n trade. Just sign him to the MLE. Our frontcourt would be one of the deepest in the NBA a la Pistons. Nothing wrong with that.

Vin for the LLE is AWESOME! It's so much better than dipping into the MLE for him.

Do you really think that we should keep :

- dampier
- sweet
- JYD
- Nazr
- baker
- KT

2 front court positions means 96 minutes to share between 6 players ?

Seems hardly doable.

If damp can do the MME, this keeps KT and Nazr which gives us much better trade opps. The team would be much better which is what Damp needs to consider.

I would say trade KT and keep Nazr if we had to pick, because Nazr is younger, an expiring deal, and we need a backup C. at the 4 we can play JYD, baker, and sweetney and baker can backup the 5 too. if we get dampier we could also trade Nazr but I think he will be more valuable next year

I like having a deep, talented team. We'll let Isiah and Lenny figure out what to do with our roster. I'm a thousand times more comfortable with that plan than with letting Layden and Chaney figure out what to do.

Thats a great signing.Maybe getting him for change will make him play even harder for a larger pay day.I also hope he does well with his sobriety.

Good point. So, what about trading KT for a good draft pick to a team with capspace in order to start building for the future ?

Vince won't help us. Too many shooters and ego for one ball. We should keep away from him and his plastic knee...

Thank you Baker for wanting to play with the Knicks for the LLE. That helps us so much! That says good things about Baker and his genuine desire to remain in NY. The fact that Isiah really shows interest in his players really makes them feel confortable.

If we do end up signing Dampier with the MLE, then I think I would do the same thing you are suggesting: trading KT for the future. We would be basically set at every position, thats if the Craw deal finally gets done, so we could do a gamble for the future. We would really have to trade at least one of the frontcourt players to give everyone a decent shot at playing. So the ideal thing would be to trade him for a future first round pick of a young frontcourt player. Dealing with a team still under the cap would be the best thing so we don't have to get the value of KT's contract in the move.

This is a really good signing. I think he can not only contribute during games, but can help Sweets reach his offensive potential.

That's pretty nice and charitable of Baker to sign for the LLE... but why couldn't he just take the veteran's minimum? After all... isn't he still getting money resulting from his release from Boston?

His signing kind of allows us to part with some of our centers. Bye Mutombo-- you provided us with some fun moments.

If we get Dampier, relegate KT or Nazr to the trading block. Smartest idea would be to target a developing athletic forward-center like Tyson Chandler or Stromile Swift. Scratch Kwame since he busted his foot in summer action. Include picks if necessary for Chandler.
Sh-t in the popcorn to go with sh-t on the court. Its a theme show like Medieval times.

If we get Dampier, I would even do a KT, Nazr a No.1 pick and a No.2 pick for Chandler and E-Rob, if thats what it took. In fact, include another pick if necessary.

We won't be needing picks if we get Chandler. We'd have sky potential with Crawford, Ariza, Sweetney and Chandler. That covers every position. We'd have proven scorers in Houston and TT. We'd have a superstar playmaker in Marbury. And we'd have one of the top 5 true centers in the league in Dampier.

The additions of the picks remind me of Layden, I don't know why...

Just kidding . The right direction would be to trade KT or Nazr or both for a young center with potential. But lets keep in mind one thing: if we get Dampier with the MLE for one season, then we should be careful because if he doesn't return we should be prepared for the life without him. If that young player could be ready to start that season then we would be fine.
