FAN just reported that Dampier will have dinner with Isiah and is considering signing with the Knicks because Atlanta is committed to rebuilding. Hmmm.

I think it's a good thing that he didn't leave town early or not come to town at all. Isiah, use your charm baby!

That's good news to hear. Hopefully tomorrow Isiah will have two things to announce.

I actually think Stro Swift would be a better choice for Atlanta than Dampier. Realistically, Dampiers probably going to be about 33 by the time Atlanta is even a respectable team.

Dampier just told reporters that he like the Knicks and is open to a MLE offer if nothing else could be worked out. As per ESPN radio.

WOW, huge. Knicks would get to keep KT and Nazr and whatever. If this happens, I feel better about the Craw deal that seems to be ready to go down.

Damp, Nazr, KT, Sweets as your bigs; TT, Penny, Az as your SFs; Hou, Marb, Craw, Anderson in the backcourt. Not too shabby.

I much prefer the MLE thing to a sign and trade.

I want KT traded for something though, he would only take minutes away from Sweetney.

Indeed, move him and buy out Shanderson. I don't mind keeping Nazr.

That leaves no minutes for JYD.

And as was mentioned, I wouldn't mind seeing Sweets get atleast half the minutes.

Dampier meets with Knicks

Aug 04, 2004
NEW YORK (AP) _ Free agent center Erick Dampier visited the New York Knicks on Wednesday, a team he said would go farther in the playoffs with him on the roster.

But he's still shopping.

The 6-foot-11 veteran has spent the last seven seasons with Golden State and has talked to a few other NBA clubs the past several weeks.

Dampier met with Knicks coach Lenny Wilkens, toured the practice facility with Madison Square Garden and was expected to meet later Wednesday with general manager Isiah Thomas.

The Knicks lost in the first round of the playoffs last season.

"I think with the addition of me, it would definitely make this team better," Dampier said.

Dampier averaged 12 rebounds, fourth in the league, and 12.3 points last season. He has also met with the Atlanta Hawks, and said they put an offer on the table.

"We're talking with a few teams," Dampier said. "At this point I don't really know how this situation is going to pan out. It's been a very interesting situation for me over the last couple of weeks just wondering where I'm going to be."

Dampier said he may be ready to consider a one-year, mid-level contract.

"You get to a certain point in your life where the money's not a factor and you just want to win," he said. "I'm not getting any younger and I want to be in the playoffs so I have a chance to compete for a championship."

For the Knicks, the addition of Dampier in the post would give them another big man for the new big man in the conference _ Shaquille O'Neal of the Miami Heat. Dampier said he has had success against O'Neal in the past. The key, he said, is to keep O'Neal from settling in down low.

"I just try to go out and play him hard. Meet him early every time down the floor and not let him get to the position he's most comfortable in," Dampier said.

I'm getting pretty optimistic that Zeke can get this done.

it will be interesting. Atlanta can offer that they have harrington walker and close to his room + double the money. I think he wants to come to NY but we will also have to contend with a much larger contract and the fact that hes in driving disatnce of his hometown.--not to mention it costs atleast 3-4 mm for a good place to live in the city

I wonder if all of the "news" is a ploy by Damp and team to push Golden State to a trade. Could be.

Martin, I think this still could turnout to be a sign and trade.

Signing Dampier to a 1 year deal at the MLE is the only way that I'd take this contract year wonder. Giving him a big money deal and he'll just revert back to the "plays when he feels like it" player that he was before his option year.

a 2-year deal is the logical one. This way if he plays like he did last year your not worried about losing him in 2 years, or if he wants to bolt at least your in position to offer a sign and trade.

Good point Fish. You're right, a 2 year deal is the way to get him.

Yeah, 2 year deal is logical; One year deal makes no sense if you understand the NBA salary rules (unless Dampier refuses to sign for longer than one year)
