Demetrius Jackson - just a hunch but I think he was selected by Boston for us

Given their stash of draft picks, I had expected Boston to be more active trading their second rounders. They took a couple of draft and stash players in Guerschon Yabusele (16th) and Ante Zizic (23rd) - not surprising, really. They then flipped their 31rd and 35th picks to Memphis. Then with the 45th pick they chose Demetrius Jackson, which for me was a real head scratcher, given their depth and youth at both PG (Thomas, Smart, Rozier) and SG (Bradley, Hunter, Young). When I realised that Boston was unable to sell its picks for more than a total of $300K, because they had already received $3.1MM in cash from previous trades made this year (teams are limited to receiving $3.4MM in cash each season, as Bobby Marks from the Vertical pointed out), a light bulb clicked. A deferred trade to the Knicks, agreed to in principle but not finalised or announced until early July just made too much sense. The Knicks know Jackson from having scouted Jerian Grant the previous year, he plays in an uptempo pro system at Notre Dame and has a lot of physical characteristics of a Jeff Hornacek guard.

Just saying I wouldn't be surprised if it happened!

Great point about them not being able to sell their picks. I saw Marks tweet and then forgot about it.

I would love Jackson, but why us and not other teams?

Why is it that you think it will be the Knicks that would get him and not another team?? I'll take him but just don't see exactly what made you think of this the way you have.

We still have our $3M, and we lose it soon, I think.

To be honest, I thought were were going to hear that we had bought a pick after the draft was over. No idea who we might have partnered with, though I thought it might be for a foreign player who wanted to play this year and not be stashed.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

That would be awesome. I had Jackson at 22 but coming into the season I thought he had a chance to be a top 5 pick. He really reminds me of a version of Tim Hardaway. He didn't shoot it from outside as well a the year before but that doesn't worry me-- he'll shoot just fine. Also this guy is built for the nba his body his explosion -- he could be an nba star one day. That being said when I see it I'll believe it. If true Is give the Knicks draft night an A.

There was a French G who said he has a promise from an Nba team to play this year and I guess the team who was supposed to pick him reneged

I really wanted one of these PGs that went late in this draft and I had Jackson right behind Cat Barber as a target of choice.. Not sure I see Boston/Ainge doing us any favors though, being a big division rival and all. I think Jackson could jump right in as a rotation player for us--I can see Ainge asking for more than cash/future 2nd rounder at a later date (July 1st) but hey, maybe I'm wrong on that. So you're saying that once July 1st rolls around, Boston once again has the ability to make trades for larger cash amounts? Interesting take--I would love Jackson. And good point about their backcourt already being pretty deep. Who knows--maybe they do look to move him.

no the celtics drafted dem jackson and plan to keep him

random fact: his parents went to butler and are tight with coach stevens

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Let's not forget that the knicks gave up money in the O'Quinn S&T so they might not have a lot left.

Didn't realize we had cash involved when we acquired O'Quinn. At what point does our full cash amount to use in trades replenish?

This is interesting but don't we lose that $3.4M once the new year begins on 7/1?

No, it resets to $3.5m.
