Seems like Phil either wasn't crazy about Conley and Rondo, or didn't think he would get either of them. Rose can be a stop-gap, or maybe long-term solution. Only time will tell. Now where does the 30+ million go? Dwight? Horford? P. Gasol? Or is the focus on the SG/SF positions with Melo and KP playing more PF and center? Thoughts?

Don't sign any long terms that's what. 1 year deals or trade for expirings only. Basically just fill the roster, don't worry about competing.

I think Phil knows the real prize awaits next year in both free agency and the stacked draft.

$60 million can buy you 2 MAX PHUCKING STUDS....basically a 1 way ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals (at minimum)

Ok that's fine but you only do that if you feel like you have a good chance at a couple of the upcoming free agents. If you can land someone like Horford, who is interchangeable with KP at the 4/5, you do it instead of wait in my opinion. You will still have max cap space next season.

The only way this works is if Phil can lure Durant and Westbrook somehow from the dim lights in OKC.

Westbrook nauseates me and I suspect we are targeting him too.

For the record, this trade was God-awful. Phil needs to keep his old ass out of trade discussions and just focus on signing people. I thought that the Tyson Chandler was bad but this one is the bigger and meaner ugly brother.

I tend to be in this corner--we give it a shot this year--find more good role players and set up for 2017

This. No long term deals this year. Save your cap money for 2017. 60 million worth can get you 2 max elite players in a loaded FA pool. Melo, KP and Rose with role players should be enough to make playoffs in east.

You're gonna have to explain why you feel this way about the deal. I don't see it being "God-awful". It seems extremely strategic IMO. It looks like there is an awful lot of planning going on for flexibility going forward.

I suspect Noah comes in FA. Hopefully some more guards, too, as we have no others under contract.

I think the Knicks minimally buy a pick tomorrow night. The draft should be interesting. Also, maybe they move the 2017 2nd rounder to get a pick tomorrow.

How many centers that rebound, block, play defense and are young with very little mileage are sitting around in the league for us to get them? Never trade big for small - the results are always bad. Always

I think the deal was for cap space, plus looking at the Sun's system Melo would be a PF and KP would be the Center.

R.Bucher says it's a slam dunk, grand slam that the Knicks won this trade.

We just gave away one of the better value contracts in the league that is also attached to one of the league's better rim protectors with an emerging offensive game in Robin Lopez. We also gave away a promising young role player in Jerian Grant. And for what? Derrick Rose? The possibility that someone will want our cap space in 2017?

We keep making the same type of dumb decisions that end in the same result. Fundamentally speaking, this is no different from the Tyson Chandler trade or the Andrea Bargnani trade where we give away assets/better value in the hopes that the "benefit" of financial flexibility will save the day at some distant juncture in time. We need to learn that sometimes a bird in hand is worth two in the bush and build a proper team slowlly and steadily. There is no fast-track to the top and this deal wreaks of the type of desperstion that runs counter to that spirit.

There is a rumor that we wnt Noah that just came out but don't know how much truth is behind it. I'd rather go after P.Gasol on a 2 year deal and then we'd still have enough money for a legit SG but we'd also have enough money to get J.Noah, a SG and another mis tier piece with the 30+ million we have to spend. I wonder if Phil already knows who he's going after and maybe even Melo has talked to certain players to know if they'd wanna come here.

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid dude. I'll be waiting at the finish line, like I have with the Tyson Chandler and Andrea Bargnani trades to tell you "I told you so".

Keep hating on this trade but when you calm down and really look at it it really isn't a bad deal for us at all.
