adios! i wasn't as disenchanted with afflalo as some are/were here, but he opted out so he can make more money and i wouldnt pay him anything more than the 8mil he got last year. sure he's a proven vet, but just to streaky. his 38% 3ptFG doesnt really light up the world either. if he's willing to come back at 8mil a year, then i don't have a problem with it, but that's only AFTER we've exhausted other bigtime FA options.

New York Knicks forward Derrick Williams has informed the franchise that he’ll become an unrestricted free agent this summer, league sources told The Vertical.

Williams, 25, passed on his $4.6 million player option for the 2016-17 season, choosing to test the market, sources said.

The Knicks still have an interest in signing Williams to a new deal, sources said. Williams’ athleticism and versatility at a small forward position in demand on the market are expected to give him significant options this summer.

Williams averaged 9.3 points – his career average – in 80 games for the Knicks. Williams was the No. 2 overall pick by Minnesota in the 2011 NBA draft.

Seems like a positive to me if he was unwilling to come off the bench next season. I expect that he or his people had talks with Jackson or Hornachek and found out how they were planning on using him.

He did some good things last year, but also showed his athletic limitations.

Maybe he becomes a nice bench player on a good team...who knows- but you don't expect him to be starting on a top tier team.

Will be interesting to see if we resign him- wonder what kind of money he is looking for?

Also wonder what teams might be interested in him.

bad on both... I fully believe we could have moved AA to a team for a late #1 or a couple #2s

Cap space is fine.. we knew he wasn't part of the mix anyway

I hope we find a way to keep D Will, but he was under utilized here.

I'll be shocked if Aaron lands a starting role on any NBA team.

Good news. Never liked his style of play. Plus it frees up extra cap

Glad to hear it. He's not like Ray Allen who doesnt need to do a lot of dribbling to put points up on the board. Glad we aren't overpaying for someone pushing 30 who relies as much on athleticism to get buckets as AA does. I think we dodged a bullet.

I think teams would rather have the 8 mil cap space we'd have to give something up to get them to take him.

I would be disgusted if I got demoted to the bench for someone I'm flat out better then, then have a coach lie and say he spoke to me about it, when all he actual said was, you'll be coming off the bench for the foreseeable future.

There's no way Phil or JH can tell him that would be his role when they have no replacement on deck

cap space doesn't score and play SG. Watch.. he's not a great player but he's got a decent skill set. He will get a nice contract and get some offers. This is a seller's market. You not paying attention to NBA economics

afflalo sucked real real bad for the knicks, a real disappointment. williams was a big surprise and i thought he'd be a bit more interested in helping to build a winner, but i can understand his wanting more money at this juncture. i liked him. good luck and best wishes to williams and good riddance to afflalo.
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

The time to trade him was before the deadline when everyone knew the knicks had zero chance of making the playoffs.
