"FORGET EDDY CURRY! LETS GO FOR THE BIG DAMP!"

That's the kind of thinking that has hurt the Knicks in the past.

Why go for the 22 year old who's had weight problems when you can have the 30 year old who's had one good season?

uh...Rodney White?
Exactly; the Bulls and Jamal have other options. I'd rather give them our junk players (plus Frank if necessary) now than lose the chance to get Jamal and JYD

I agree that we shouldn't screw around, but I also think Deke needs to hold onto Othella for a possible Damps trade. I think we all agree that Damps is more important.

That being said, it sounds like a trade is VERY close. Something may be anounced tomorrow.

I may be wrong, but I think the Knicks can offer Deke, Frank, Cindy and Moochie plus $3 million for Jamal and JYD. The trade saves the Bulls $2 million next year and $11 million overall, not counting what they would pay Jamal or the headache of having him there all year.

i can't stand these delays! im going crazy! give us crawford already! what can denver offer that would be so good?

that rumor is bogus imho...what kind of package could DEN possibly put together to get Crawford in any sign & trade?

Tskitishvili & Veshon Lenard? the Bulls would never trade JC unless JYD was attached...that's the whole point behind their demands in this Knicks trade...they want cap relief for next season when it comes time for them to resign either Chandler or Curry.

TMS, why would the Bulls trade Crawford if they wanted cap space next season - just let the guy go next summer.

to get rid of JYD's contract...that's why they want to take back ending contracts in return for signing & trading him...they benefit more by doing this than just letting JC walk as a FA.

Im praying we didnt lose Frank Williams and Dikembe Motumbo in this deal. If anything we should be looking for a CENTER not yet ANOTHER swing man. We have Houston, granted some say he may still be injured, but then we also have Penny, Shanderson, Ariza, and you might even argue Marbury all playing the same 2 guard position. What we need is a halfway decent center and please, please spare me that Nazr Mohammed is the future. If anything Mohammed is a Power Forward without a jump shot, nothing more. If Motumbo is to be traded it should be for another center.

But according to the deal, they are taking back Moochie, who is guaranteed next season. What's the total difference? Now if they buy out Moochie, which I concede is easier than buying out JYD, that makes sense.

they can buy out Moochie, sure...Isiah had offered them cash to offset his salary next year anyway...it's alot better than to have to find a taker for JYD's contract which extends for another 3 years at double the money, right?

According to NBA.TV it's Crawford and Williams for Mutombo, Norris and cash.

That's not a bad deal. Chicago get salary cap space with Deke and Mooch in the immediate future and we fill our roster nicely with a hustler player in JYD and the young combo guard for the three guard rotation of Marbury, H20 and Jamal. Best of all we still keep Frank as an asset and back up pg. Sounds sweet to me.

doesnt work financially

deke 4.8
moochie 3.8

=8.6

i think williams is 6.5
so another knicks worth close to 5mm must be in there if craford has a 55mm$ contract that would start at 7.2mm

That works *perfectly* since Jamal is a BYC player (see about a thousand other threads for an explanation) and Jerome's salary is 5.5 mil (not 6.5)

Actually, Im not that sure that's right. Atleast not in the context of a Curry and Chandler extension. The Bulls have only 23 mil in guaranteed salary next season (aside from Curry and Chandler), which allows them to extend deals starting at 10 mil (essentially max deals) for both Curry and Chandler, and thats if they intend to be that generous, which I doubt. Still, they would be under the projected cap, and thats if there is a luxury tax next season. I think extending Curry or Chandler is irrelevant to the Crawford trade.

Now, in terms of simply saving expenditure, there's definitely a point to your case. They would be saving 13 mil or so over the life of all deals. And, if they buy out Moochie, it gives them room to sign another significant free agent next summer. So, perhaps you're right that there is incentive for this deal as a purely cost-cutting measure after all.

I would have thought that expanding the deal to its maximum would have further benefited the Bulls though. Accumulating expiring deals for moves at the deadline would allow more options in terms of acquiring an impact player. The same net cap space is created just with more pawns involved.

They have Curry's and Chandler's Bird rights. If they want to and can afford to, they can give both players max contracts.

If it's Dikembe & Moochie for JYD & Craw they save about $5 mil (compared to letting Crawford walk) and they get cash considerations (probably $3 mil) in the rumored deals

Right, the point is that they can offer those max deals and still stay under the cap. Paring down salaries further isn't required unless they want to sign another player. Not to mention that neither are worth max deals.

In additional news, Crawford has rejected the agreement between paxson and IT. Apparently, Crawford cannot live with a 7 year 55 mil contract and needs a 6 year 55 mil contract. Not out of the woods yet.
