Rambis is a Triangle coach . . . and the Triangle isn't implemented in a day.

Jackson talked for 2 years as if he wanted to implement the Triangle.

And he implicitly admitted that that's NOT what they were doing 100%
before Rambis took over from Fisher (else . . . why have the workshop
on Triangle basics, if they didn't need them ??).

So what kind of a chance did Rambis really get (?)

What kind of chance did the Triangle really get (?)

This Hornacek hire seems like nonsense to me.

Where's the continuity . . . across the board (?)

Where's the confidence building in the Triangle Culture . . . which is
multi-leveled with many stages of development.

Knicks were making good progress in building Triangle Culture.

Even with the Fisher debacle.

This Hornacek hire looks like a complete disruption to the process . . .

I think they're finally on the right path. They need someone smart enough to implement the Triangle on his own and update it.

Rambis and Fisher were not the guys to implement the Triangle.

Hornacek is smart enough to do it. And smart enough to know how to tweak it for his personnel in ways that Rambis and Fisher did not get.

Who cares? He had a fair chance in Minnesota and sucked. And sucked for the short time he had here.

Some of you are mad already? You wanted some transient moment that explains the universe?
Did he get a fair chance? Most likely not.
Maybe this is for recruiting. Maybe Durant told a friend "Bring Abby Hornacek and I'll sign with Knicks"!!!
Until Phil's Files are made public, we just don't know.
But, it appears to be a coninuence of the existing schematic that is Trianglish.

agreed. Good guy not a good coach. As for the triangle ive never been a fan of it. I mean if you have hall of famers like jordan shaq and kobe you can run any system and it would work. But im a fan of hornacek. He Did well in phoenix but got screwed over when they let all their players walk

Phil is no fool. He wants the team to win and he knows that there is more than one way to do that!!! He didn't always run the Triangle but came to appreciate how it fosters GROUP play and unselfishness, but he also knows that's not the only way to achieve that goal. The Triangle was a means to an end, but the GOAL has not changed.

Also the OVERALL SYSTEM is still the Triangle. What JH does within that overall system will be tweaked but the total system encompasses more than a Screen or PnR play within that system. The RULES of the Triangle should still be there governing actions such as when to cut, set a down screen etc. people forget that beyond the spacing there are automatics that the players must all recognize when the defense does a certain thing. That part of the Triangle can still be there but the "Audibles" so to speak may change. Jerian or Wroten calling for a PnR or some other action may increase. This is just an enhancement of the Triangle System and not necessarily an abandonment of it.

Rambis did get a fair chance to connect with the players, and they did not want him. I know most will zero in on Melo but others including KP expressed concerns or non endorsements. The only real endorsement I could come up with for Rambis was if Phil trusts him that's enough for me to have an open mind. I 100% believe that if Phil thought Rambis was the guy he would be the guy. I think Kurt has a personality issue. Surely Phil trusts him but you listen to him talk, he's not engaging. Its hard to connect with guys like that and players need to connect with the coach. No doubt Phil understood pushing Rambis on players that did not connect with him would simply be bad management.

I have no doubt JH also learned some things in Pho and has some better ideas how to navigate the coaching pitfalls.

Should have hired Rambis from day one.

And has now probably made the same mistake . . . again.

That is always possible. He did with Fish. He and half the baskeball world thought Fish was a more together person. Clarity in hindsight.
What else? Gave Rambis a chance to earn the cred. It was a tough task given the team was in disfunction.

I think your treating the Triangle as some generic entity. Its not.

WHAT??? Fish had very experienced assistants and he chose not to foster a tight relationship with Phil. I'm pretty sure that Fish said he WANTED more from Phil, but then he did the complete opposite when the cameras weren't on him. That's not Phil's fault. That was Fish being a dick.

Rambis had a shot and he really wasn't even close to impressive enough to win the job. He needed to show something as the Head coach to make it easy for Phil but he didn't.

Hornacek was an inspired choice. He's got great concepts offensively and should be great for the younger players on this team. They're still gonna run some Triangle but will add some other things to better take advantage of the talents of these young players. Horny is a believer in TEAM play and his offense wasn't stagnant. That's what Phil wants!!! Horny also uses modern concepts of more efficient basketball which is a good thing. I can't see any reason to not be happy about this move.

Phil originally wanted Kerr! He then changed up and hired a young guy and put vet assistants around him. What happened with Fish was mostly about Fish not being a stand up guy as he held himself out to be. Fish is the one that pushed Phil away and so he made his own bed. I don't view it as Phil having the wrong idea in trying to mentor a young coaching talent. Fish was known as a guy that young teammates looked up to and listened to. Fish was the one that stood up to Kobe and spoke in the locker room. So he did show some talent to be a leader. That's what Phil was thinking.

As Phil said today, it was really just one coach even tho the media tries to make it sound like it was Woody, Fish, Rambis. It was really only Fish and Rambis being an interim coach for part of a season isn't the same as hiring a coach to start a season as with Hornacek. Two full seasons and now his 2nd Head Coach hired. Not really as bad as many try to make it sound.

i think he learned from those mistakes. Hornacek has more experience and did well before management got rid of all his players

Rambis was also the interim coach. He never was hired permanently to be the head coach. I don't think it is a stretch to say the team struggled under him. He did not win much during his audition for the job and I don't think the players gave him a positive review at the exit meetings.

I think they simply didn't like him, and while life isn't a popularity contest this means something.
