Its pretty simple--we need to rebuild our backcourt--no duh:) Im all in on this offseason--I think we can get what we need for the next 5-7 years.

Heres the thesis.

As Ive stated below--IF Denzel Valentine is available at 16 and the Cs are not interested in adding another draft pick--I will give them my 2017 with ONLY 5 restriction IF they give me picks 16 and 35 and I will do what is necessary to grab another pick between 36-42

Picks
Denzel Valentine
A J Hammons
Cat Barber

I would also sign Bryn Forbes and Derrick Jones to play at Westchester(who will sell out their games with them) giving good sized camp deals if they go unsigned--that would replace the pick going to the Celtics in 2017

I am GOING to OVERPAY to get Allen Crabbe--whatever that number is it will be to high but it has to be intrusive to Portland so they do not match. Im saving money by signing draft picks as my role players and to fill out 12-15 to save cash for my free agency. Im willing to go to 4 years 64mm

This gives me 4 NEW YOUNG guards who are diverse--it give s me what I believe STRONGLY is a lottery pick C in Hammons who has MORE skills than Lopez and is a much better defender than Willy G.

This has been the problem with this franchise for the last 15 years - they keep thinking they are one move away, one player away, so they trade picks and starphuck.

We're not getting what we need for the next 5-7 years in this off season.

We have a hole that has been dug for the last 15. Its not being fixed overnight!

I think the way you win is you get guys with the plan of keeping them together. Wed have a diverse assortment of guards--excellent big men and Carmelo. This will show in on year whether melo should stay of not.

I'm pretty sure you've already made like 3 or 4 other threads with this same plan. Do you have any different plans than trading future picks for a pick to get D.Valentine and getting Forbes and signing Crabbe in free agency??

I think Phil can accomplish the thrust of this kind of plan without giving up the 1st rd pick. It doesn't seem necessary for Phil to make any drastic moves with picks in order to improve the team significantly this summer.

*Sigh*.

(1) we have no pick in 2016
(2) we do have a pick in 2017
(3) Briggs is only suggesting that we trade the 2017 pick for a 2016 pick
(4) net gain/loss in picks: ZERO

Can we please just keep the whole picks conversation . . . unemotional (?)

Exactly--IF you can execute it--for the right price--its just moving things along. If I dont get a top 5 pick in 2017 then we got a good player 1 year earlier. Also look what I said--if Derrick Jones doesnt get drafted--give him 100k camp deal and send him to Westchester for the year aka our 2017 athletic SF pick that we will need. There are TO many players for this draft--many good players will slip completely out.

I like each guy--each guy can be material over time

Valentine--future leader when Carmelo is gone our PG who can play in many sets

Hammons--back up to Lopez and will eventually take his position cheap for 4 years

Barber--Tony Parker in the flesh--great 6th man for the future--will help as a top 12 rotational player right off the bat and cheap for 4 years

Forbes--Patty Mills + hes 6-3

Derrick Jones--future star--needs time at Westchester only 19

You want to give up a top 5 protected first round pick for a guy who is slated to go in the late teens and who has a big knock on him as being unathletic?

so here is what phil is thinking ....
