Because it was suggested in articles that Melo could ask for a trade if Phil stuck with Rambis, I just had a thought about the team minus Melo. This led me to take a look at what the Knicks did without Melo for the 10 games he missed. They of course lost all those games which was part of the reason for the record, but they had some competitive games in this bunch of Meloless games.

Unfortunately KP missed 3 of these games. Just taking a glance it is clear that the overall lack of production from the Guards and Wings was a huge issue. Not to mention that Lopez struggled early on in the year. Afflalo was often called upon to try and fill the gap in terms of scoring. KP had some good games and I can only imagine how he'd respond to an increased role as he matures.

IMO there would be obvious production missing minus Melo but depending on who Phil would be able to add it might not be as bad as some expect. Replacing Jose and AA in the starting lineup with better defensive guards would help a lot. Having a better defender Replacing Melo would help to mitigate some of the lost scoring. Better use of DWILL if he stays would help. I don't think we got everything we could out of DWILL. Having Jerian, maybe Wroten and a couple of younger guards like a Crabbe, Seth Curry or Bazemore could really have a positive impact on this team Minus Melo.

Another thing I notice is that the production from Grant and Gallo was a huge factor as well. If we can get more out of both of them going forward it would have a nice positive impact. There could be a very nice change depending on the additions Phil makes to the guards. Internal development of Grant and Gallo as well as Wroten will be key. Just imagine adding any other 2 way guard with at least league average output or slightly better. It will help a lot for Grant, Gallo and Wroten to show substantial development next season. The good news is that Grant did show some very nice signs of stepping out of his funk. Gallo despite having a disappointing year was playing not too far off from a league average guard. If he can find consistency and raise his shooting % a bit next year he'll achieve a nice level of play.

It's just an observation that they weren't blown out a lot. It's interesting to consider what the team would look like if Melo did ask for a trade. Right now there isn't a bonafide primary scorer and that would be an issue but it would depend on who Phil brought in not only to replace Melo but to improve the guards and wings.

Ode to MElo from log suffering Knciks fan

What a fool I was, what a dominated fool
To think that you are the Earth and sky
What a fool I was, what an addlepated fool
What a mutton-headed dolt was I

No, my reverberating friend
You are not the beginning and the end

There'll be 82 games every year without you
New York still will be here without you
There will still be balls in the hoop
Long after you've flown the coop
There'll be orange and blue without you

Offense and defense will thrive without you
The Traingle will survive without you
And there still will be drama without yo mama
Even that will remain without you,
We ALL can do, without you!

Just leave, goddammit

Yeah, i'd love an entire season of losing by 8-10 points! Maybe we could set records! It's just so enthusing to watch this team over time without it's best player.

nixluva, he's not going anywhere soon.

Likewise; your blind hate is only matched by your mastery of grammar.
