He basically slithered in on Lionel Hollins job and perhaps in time its became more intolerable his career came first before teams best interests. It happens, its a tough business both for coach and GM. While there has been no worse front office than the one in SAC, sometimes a team turns the corner and Joerger might be part of the solution.
We as fans tend to extrapolate the present discord into the future. This is why knick fans want a "winning" coach thinking that they, like players can bring that mojo to the team. While true, the roster has much to do with it.
It was Reported Joerger was almost fired mid season.
I like how you used slithered to describe Joerger's move. He's been very Machiavellian with his career moves and moving from an older team that seems deadset on maxing out its cap room to keep Conley and be a treadmill team. To a team with Boogie that's biggest problem is a lack of leadership isn't a dumb move. If he does a good job there they might promote him to a high position in the organization in 5 or so years.
On the flip I keep saying this the Grizzlies are not that good of a prospect for a coach, their core's peaked, is getting older, and they seem deadset to overpay Conley out of loyalty. Those are not the makings of a team that hopes to eventually be a contender.
