Is Mike Conley a Joerger fan? Because that might change my opinion of him a little.

Knicks are going to have to let it be known they are willing to pay more. Also unfortunately the Grizzlies GM is good friends with Vogel (though that hasn't help Phil land a coach yet). The good news is this happened over the weekend. It gives the knicks some time to decide what they want to do. So far Vogel has in my opinion been the best option for the job because he seems very friendly to the triangle concepts. Knicks also have a younger Front court with a potential star with KP on it and is just younger in general. Memphis is also capped out (especially if they keep Conley) and do not have a pick in a very good 2017 FA. The knicks have 18 mil to spend this summer and likely 23-31 mil depending on if D-Will and AA stay. Memphis is also in a much tougher conference than NY. On top of that no one on Memphis can play a Paul George role on a team like Melo can. If Phil wants the knicks can be competitive in their attempt to get Vogel. They can also offer him an offense which I am pretty sure he is aware he needs some help on. The problems come in that 1) players and teams think less of the knicks than memphis (see Granger's comments) and 2) Marc Gasol is arguably the best center in the league (though both he and Conley have been injured recently). They are without a doubt a better team than the knicks now, but the knicks potentially will be the better team in the short and long future. The algorithm gives and the algorithm takes away

If Phil wants Vogel i would think he could easily have him and the only other team i could see him chosing over the Knicks job would be the Houston job since they already have a good team and a owner that will spend money. |
