One DL guard I'd love to see Phil consider -- Corey Walden. This might be the best guard out there no one's even heard of (including me until quite recently). Billed as a 6'2" combo. guard, I see him as more of a PG.
College stats his last year at Eastern Kentucky (2014-15):
18.6 ppg, 54.7% FGs (66.2% on 2-pt FGs), 36.4% on 3s, 81.7% FTs (147-180), 4 rebs, 3.8 assts, 3.1 steals.
Those are impressive numbers. Mid major school, I know, but still Div. 1. Very efficient player and the 3.1 steals really pops out. Known as a defense-first player coming out of college from things I've read. I caught him live once this year in the DL and looked at quite a few of his archived games since. Didn't put up overly gaudy numbers but he was still pretty consistent/solid:
41 games, 21 starts, 26 mins per, 51.9% FGs (over 60% from 2, 37.6% from 3), 83.9% FT, 3.1 rebs, 4 assts, 1.2 steals.
You can tell this dude can play, man. Right off the top, he's more skilled than Galloway in every area. Only 23 years old. Better handle, faster with the ball in his hands, athleticism/strength look solid, much better drive/finish game (terrific looking finisher in fact) and he might be an even better 3-pt shooter. He actually reminds me of a poor man's Eric Bledsoe. Nice knowing that if we strike out on other PG upgrade alternatives, this guy's out there as a fallback option. Walden should be a definite summer league player for us. I'd love to get a closer look at this guy.
Looked like a real man among boys in college on both ends:
