to be honest folks...it wouldnt surprise me if wroten makes the team, becomes our starting PG. then averages 12ppg 5 asts with bad shooting but improves the perimeter defense. due to his flamboyant play i can picture him becoming a crowd favorite for years to come.

it ALSO wouldnt surprise me if wroten plays over the summer, the knicks dont like what they see (since he lost a step) and then CUT him. thats how SERIOUS this knee injury is folks

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Going for him is the fact that the triangle doesn't rely on super athletic pg.

agreed. but what im worried about is the triangle requires brain power. and wroten makes JR look like an einstein!

Any similar injuries to other players that we can look at?

He probably shouldn't have come back this year to play at all.

The real problem has to do with the fact that Wroten's game is predicated on his athleticism...without it he becomes a guy who can't really shoot who will now have trouble attacking the basket and defending.

Triangle actually makes decision making easier for a guard, which is why you don't need a Jason Kidd to run it. The reads are simple and if you put a guard like Wroten in the Pinch Post 2 man game he's gonna react faster and attack the D more often. That's what Shved did because he was a guard that loved to attack the rim. Wroten doesn't even need help to beat his man! So IMO he has the right game for this system.

Of course he has to learn the system. I just don't think it's as hard as some make it out to be. If you watch video of Wroten you can see he's already excellent coming of Dribble Handoffs and Drag Screens!!! That's the bulk of looks he's gonna see in this system. Feed the post player and cut isn't hard. If the defender overplays you attack or call the big out for a screen.

He probably shouldn't have come back this year to play at all.

several players suffer thru ACL injuries in basketball. in fact, if this occurs before age 23, im pretty sure it wont be a long term problem ( kinda like tommy john surgery in baseball - everyone gets it done). however, my concern as a physician is the fact that he had it done TWICE on the same right knee (his explosive limb, since hes a lefty). Remember he had this same ACL injury as a junior in HS playing football. Wroten was once a top #5 national recruit until that happened. after that, he went under the radar and went to uWashington (instead of UNC, or syracuse). The fact that he re-injured this knee, the fact that NO ONE else wanted him, the fact that he still hasnt played any meaningful games recently - these all give me red flags that this knee issue could be very very serious

to answer your question: i dont recall any recent player who had TWO ACL injuries to the same knee. ill look it up

Wroten is still quick n explosive. The issue was his injured leg was smaller than the other leg. He needed to continue to rehab and strengthen the quad and that is very fixable.

Was unaware of his injury history...that is not good.

I think Jackson signed him to the right kind of contract-that's why I feel comfortable with the signing even though I'm not a big fan of Wroten as a player.

Seems like a good guy, and I recall liking what I heard out of him in an interview I saw before his draft. If we strike gold...great, if not, we let him go with minimal damage.

Very interesting that he did not play anywhere to showcase himself, and his contract with us was a minimal one, and pretty team-friendly.

Yeah, neither thing would surprise me. I think that's fair. Still a worthwhile gamble at such a low financial commitment.

Martin come on man! How long have I been here that you don't know I always check on things I comment on and don't just wildly post things? I may not have success with season Predictions but I very rarely post things without backup.

Wroten played this season before being waived. He was on a minutes restriction to start. He was rusty and did not perform well so they cut ties and went after Ish who was more ready to give them what they needed. Wroten played in 8 games only starting 3.

He also looks the same: unbelievably left-handed and careless with the basketball and still able to drive past smaller defenders despite the ACL injury.

Here's a little snapshot of reports on his games from the start of the season.

Sat, Dec 5, 2015 03:51:00 PM - Tony Wroten made his season debut against the Nuggets on Saturday, making 2-of-7 from the field for four points with three assists and five turnovers. He actually looked good today and was able to get to the rim at will. Wroten was his typical self with his 34.3 usage rate, which topped his efficiency of a 28.6 true shooting percentage. He's still kind of a bull in a china shop and can't shoot.

Source: Keith Pompey on Twitter Sun, Dec 6, 2015 12:25:00 PM - Tony Wroten is expected to play 15-16 minutes on Monday against the Spurs.
Wroten made his season debut on Saturday against the Nuggets and scored four points with three assists and five turnovers in 13 minutes, and the good news is that he was moving really well on the court.

Mon, Dec 7, 2015 09:46:00 PM - Tony Wroten played 14 minutes against the Spurs on Monday, missing all five shots from the field and making 2-of-4 from the line for two points with one rebound and two assists. Yuck. Wroten is still driving past people, but he really can't finish.

Thu, Dec 10, 2015 10:36:00 PM - Tony Wroten played 17 minutes in a start against the Nets on Thursday, making 3-of-5 from the field for nine points with four rebounds, two assists, one steal and two turnovers.

Tue, Dec 15, 2015 02:20:00 AM - Tony Wroten scored a season-high 12 points with three rebounds, one steal and two 3-pointers in 18 minutes against the Bulls on Monday. Wroten looked a little better tonight that he did in his previous three games

Wed, Dec 16, 2015 11:54:00 PM - Tony Wroten came off the bench to score 12 points in 16 minutes on Wednesday, hitting 4-of-10 field goals and 3-of-5 free throws in the Sixers' road loss.

Fri, Dec 18, 2015 10:16:00 PM - Tony Wroten scored 15 points with three rebounds, three assists, one steal and seven turnovers in 23 minutes against the Knicks on Friday.

Tue, Dec 22, 2015 09:49:00 PM - Tony Wroten started for Kendall Marshall (rest) in Tuesday's loss and had seven points, seven assists and five rebounds on 2-of-9 shooting in 29 minutes. He's not shooting well and is not scoring much as a result, and the bench role behind Marshall isn't doing him any favors. Wroten's averaging 10.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists over his last five games and Marshall is the choice to start for the Sixers when he's able to play. Just keep an eye on Wroten in case he wakes up.

This was back in August:
http://friendlybounce.com/2015/08/08/tony-wrotens-recovery-from-acl-surgery-seems-to-be-going-well/

Tony Wroten, who is somehow still only 22 years old, played pretty well for the Philadelphia 76ers early on last season. He was putting up 17 points and five assists a night until he got hurt in the middle of January, playing his last game of the season against the Atlanta Hawks.

Eventually, Wroten had to undergo surgery due to a partially torn ACL in his right knee.

6 months. Six. Months. Good lord, that’s incredible.

Honestly it would be impressive work by Wroten and the Sixers to have him ready to go on opening night. But judging by this video, that should be light work at this point.

Big ups to Wroten for getting after it in his rehab. Hopefully we can see some of that athleticism during the season this year. There’s no doubt the Sixers are going to need all the help they can get.

I believe he simply came back too soon and should've been held out, but he wanted to play and the Sixers didn't really have great options. They were careful with him in keeping his minutes low and not playing him in back to backs. Still Wroten was showing he was still quick but his overall game was just not up to par. The kid needs a shot doctor and I hope they're working hard on that with him.

What I believe is he wanted to sign with the Knicks. Medical staff determined his quad was too underdeveloped. Wroten shut it down and is working to get his legs right. Knicks have been monitoring him all year. They finally signed him to the most ridiculous contact I've ever seen with all the deadlines and incentives. This process Wroten only wanted to be here. His twitter account confirmed he was going to sign with the Knicks 3 times since he got waived by Philly. Wroten took down those tweets sorely after posting them.

Nixluva did a great job explaining his athletic ability before he got waived this season. He was getting his basketball legs under him.

Philly waived him because they had too many injured guards. They went and got Ish Smith who they waived the season before. Clown leadership.

Anyway we have Wroten and the kid just turned 23. Yes he's still athletic. Yes he's super confident. Starting or in the rotation. We got better

I guess we know why Wroten didn't go the DLeague rout, he is far far from being about to get on the court in a healthy way. No doubt he has a lot of physical talent, and that physicality is going to be tested how that he injured the same knee twice.

The one line that still worries me is this:

Wroten was not under contract beyond this season, though he is only 22-years-old and is still perceived as a high upside talent. However, in his third year as a Sixer, he hadn't shown any meaningful improvement. It's a shame since Tony was one of the most exciting and likable parts of the Sixers for more than two years.

World of potential but he's got to get in the gym with Lance Thomas, Grant, KP & others and put in the very long, hard hours to change his physical gifts (that may not come back or be in decline) to some meaningful NBA skills.

Going for him is the fact that the triangle doesn't rely on super athletic pg.

The real problem has to do with the fact that Wroten's game is predicated on his athleticism...without it he becomes a guy who can't really shoot who will now have trouble attacking the basket and defending.

Wroten is still quick n explosive. The issue was his injured leg was smaller than the other leg. He needed to continue to rehab and strengthen the quad and that is very fixable.

Wait, how can you just declare Wroten is still quick and explosive. Dude has been on the IR all year

Martin the kid averaged 16 and 5.... how is that not meaningful improvement? Sometimes you can't just believe what a writer says. Their opinion is no better than your own. The truth is that 16/5 negates that writers statement

more minutes, more shots, ball in his hands a lot. Probably doing the same things as he had been doing previous. But I really don't watch him.

Dude has got to get healthy and refine his physical tools into skills.
