In fact I never understood the clippers.

Especially since they cleared some salary space to sign Kobe. I guess they figured that Kobe would become a rainmaker for them, which is reasonable.

THe point in getting KK and his ending deal is so that LAC could have MAX money under the cap next offseason. They wouldn't have MAX nmoney had they matched on Qrich.

Before you say just trade Qrich later, it's not that easy, you'd have to get an ending contract for him, and if he gets hurt you're out of luck.

Plus they can't trade QRich to the team that wanted him, PHX, for a full year, and can't trade him at all for a few months. When you look at it from a money standpoint, it's easy to see why they went for KK over Qrich.
