Wow, that Isola tidbit really got the gulible.....The guy that hired him now works for Irving, the guy that put Dolan and Phil together, so naturally that's the next guy that the next guy recommends!!!! Slow Knicks news these days so the angry get to latch on to some hope.
Yes, he is proven, and under contract. No doubt the guy has a good track record. Now you have someone you can get angry that we should hire instead of a mystical person. Mills becomes president then this guy takes over. Ok.
While we like proven commodities, I prefer Phil keep building a culture where success breeds success INTERNALLY and feeds upon itself. This is the key ingredient to a successful club. Notice the Larry Brown Legacy in SAS? that was born 20 years ago and Pop hatched from that.
What one has to see is not the obvious cuz you don't know that is transposes to instant success other than conceptual starphuching wishing upon a star type scenario. If Ujiri came tomorrow, we still don't have a pick this year, and our cap is what it is. Grant is not a star, and Jose is not Jason Kidd!!!
Masai has done a great job but one has to look at the hand he was dealt when he walked on the job. One has to look very closely at a teams assets the moment the new guy walks on the job. Like in NY, Isiah table was set based on the previous two years where Layden (via Dolan) did little after the Dyss disaster), and Toronto under colangelo had not done well, but the team did not need a full tear down. Teams that after missing the playoffs for 5 years then make it three straight is not because the new GM came on the job Exclusively. I doubt he even takes the job (Logical) if they did not have assets in place and that he could work with and feel he could succeed with.
I dont' care what phil said when he took the job, cuz NBA bullshyt soundbytes tell us what we want to hear. Phil was either aware the team was not strong and needed a tear down or he is clueless. While a noob to the job and not some wizard with great powers, not all he does will be golden. I agree with fish when he says Phil is a noob president and does not know what to do in all phases. While you don't pay 12mil for inexperience, Phil brings other qualities and star power.
Chuck, its common for you being "That Guy" that you like to repel against others high expectations like Melo being a worshipped as a god, or those that show love for phil and you relish being "that guy" who "KNows" phil was not a god and can strut around saying "Told yah", but there are many that have tempered expectations and don't take the starphuch. At the same level, we don't take the Isola weak story and run with it either. It is all over the internet so it starts to have some elements of validity, but really its nothing.
Would I like him here? Sure, but why do 5 years of triangle and culture building then have to clean house again for the next philosophy? If Phil does not succeed then perhaps we go in another direction, but if after just two years on the job and the assets in place over that time do factor in. We are paying dearly for that Bargnani trade and Phil has one less huge asset to work with.
"Full circle"? I think its chasing ones tale. Besides, why join the franchise you raped twice and deal with the aftermath? Perhaps he should wait a few more years. Logical. So basically if its an attractive gig then its the present administration that sets the table. Starphuchers can't think that thru can they?
Better Phil didn't whore out the franchise future picks for compromised guard play. Kyle Lowrey does not take this team to the promised land and by 2018 rolls around the kid might be average.
