According to most links pre-draft, about 20% of Knick fans were willing to take KP. 80% were not. That's a huge figure. Guys like SAS were ripping Jackson for taking Porzingis. The very same Porzingis who will finish 2nd in ROY voting and has broken statistic records for a player his age. In the same Triangle offense that his game is very well suited for, that Phil Jackson of all people knew from day 1 he would fit in well with.

The team this season has been set up to see Porzingis succeed. Stan Van Gundy said that he saw a team that had 4 veteran starters, most still in prime, who greatly helped in developing the 1 young core guy in Porzingis. Meanwhile Okafor rots in Philadelphia, Mudiay has had a very unimpressive season in Denver.

We talk about having Rambis as some kind of death sentence to the team, what did Mike Woodson do with a more talented, better team 2 years ago? That's right, a 35 win team that was in the lottery. What did Mike D'Antoni do with a much better team a few years ago with a prime Melo, prime Chandler, Shump/Smith and all? That's right 1 and done playoff years barely scratching past .500 Those were all teams well over the cap, well invested in veteran players and little room to grow. Rambis is not head coach material for a team serious about winning a championship or making a playoff run. I agree with the Rambis doubt. Is this team in that boat with any coach, though? You can hire any coach, and all he'd do is change the minutes and the offense. The results are likely same give or take 3-4 wins. What you want in this situation is a coach who teaches the young players the right things. Having Rambis is more critical to Porzingis. That's the irony there. We think that Rambis is killing Porzingis potential, when it's the opposite. He'll make sure Porzingis doesn't play soft. Since taking over, I saw a significant change in how Porzingis attacked in the offense. Not right away, but within a few weeks. Was very obvious.

How about we actually give a re-build some time? There's been huge obstacles in Jackson's way. He has lost 2 lottery picks due to mistakes from people in charge before him. The 2014 and 2016 pick have been lost. Both are quality ways to improve. The opportunity is there for the team to improve. They have Porzingis, Melo and Lopez. It's a very good front court. Maybe all 3 shouldn't be starting or playing heavy minutes together (there may be a better strategy, where you bring RoLo off the bench to get more speed) but the talent is there. We've got some talent with Grant, Wroten and Galloway in the backcourt. All are likely backups with upside. It's now about the starting guards. Phil has to invest in free agency very smart and very well - focus in on the weakness at the guard spots.

Way I see it. Lets get the talent at guard spot. Lets keep our fingers crossed that young players like Porzingis, Grant, Wroten all emerge as better players next year. After that, we can talk about coaching. If Rambis fails to make a better team next year better with wins and losses, he won't last any longer than Fisher did this season. The expectations from Jackson and Dolan will be playoffs - assuming they sign some free agents to address the starting guard issues. I also don't yet believe it's a given Rambis is hired next year. Phil may like how Rambis coaches and deals with players, but he'll also be looking at a player he loved who he once called his "son" in Luke Walton. If Luke is available, I think Phil definitely has interest.

Basically everything. Usually he's full of hot air, but he made alot of decent points this time.

Highlights:

-People keep mistakenly confuse Phil Jackson the coach with Phil Jackson the executive. If he was the coach of the Knicks, different story, you trust in Phil. So far, Phil DOES NOT deserve the benefit of the doubt for his repeated failures.

-Dolan basically begged Phil Jackson to sign here and got him out of his Detroit $7mill/year consulting gig and kept upping his offer to Phil. Bumped it up $8, $9, $10, and then finally $12million without Phil outlining the way he was going to fix the Knicks.

-Phil hired Fisher solely because of his ties and closeness to Kevin Durant and going full press recruiting tour on him. We all know how that turned out.

-90% of the time Phil addresses or does press conferences regarding the Knicks, it's in Los Angeles, not New York.

This among others points are all true.

Don't forget SA belief that Dolan hired Phil to reduce the tension of fans getting ready to picket MSG, which he claims was a movement he started. I don't know if thats 100% true.....But I do believe Dolan hired Phil to try and save face, while also taking on a new hands off role. Phil's qualifications as a championship player and coach, was all Dolan needed to start his hands off strategy.

I agree with SA.....He was speaking like a typical frustrated knick fan.....I wouldn't be surprised if he had an account in here. He sounded like almost all disgruntled old school fans, who suffered for over 20 years.

What I like about SA is similar to why Trump has voters. SA doesn't take the best political approach with his comments, especially when he's name dropping. And he doesn't just attack people of opposite color. He was asking for Coach Lewis (Bengals) to be fired years ago. He talks about Phil and others, eventhough he will eventually see these guys in person. It's difficult for any of us to talk about our peers, co-workers, and still have a job.

FYI, Phil maintains an East Coast home in Woodstock. He also raised his children there (i.e., Chelsea). So it's not all that strange, really.
