i've always wrestled with this riddle for the longest time. which stat is a better "representation" of better defense. on the surface, it seems like the defense that holds the lowest 3pt FG% is the better defense. it implies that youre contesting shots or forcing teams to beat the shot clock. ORRRRRRRRRR it could simply mean that your opponent is simply missing shots

on the other hand, 3pt attempts given up implies that: some of those attempts will be WIDE WIDE open (higher percentage of makes), it implies that the defense didnt scramble or rotate well enough...ORRRRRRRR it could mean, we know they cant shoot so let them

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Just thinking out loud:

If you are strictly looking at each stat individually, I want to say that 3pt% shooting will even out over time to give you a fair assessment of what your defense is giving the other team and gives you a better representation. Opponent 3pt attempts is a factor of pace, rebounding (misses) and what % they are hitting of those attempts (allow a team to shoot 50 3pt shots a game but hold them to 10%, that's still fantastic).

I want to say that 3pt% is a better indicator but in truth it's probably a mix of both, much more slated for %

low 3pt % might mean they're getting better shows inside the line - so it would have to be a combination of the 2.

yes - I sort of meant that if you saw a low 3pt % it might not be a good thing if the numbers were low and they were getting better looks inside.
