From PAT:

http://www.postingandtoasting.com/2016/3/29/11326260/here-are-the-many-details-of-tony-wrotens-two-year-contract

(very good contract and well done!)

So many deadlines! Let's break 'em all down:

If Wroten is still on the roster on Oct. 10, his salary guarantees for $25,000 for 2016-17.
If Wroten makes the opening day roster, his salary guarantees $125,000 for 2016-17.
If Wroten remains on the roster on Dec. 15, his salary guarantees $345,000.
Finally, if Wroten is still on the roster on Jan. 10, his salary guarantees $1,050,961.
And there you have it, folks. Wroten's "two-year deal" is covered by no fewer than four provisional deadlines. That's nowhere near as scary as a simple "Knicks sign injured point guard for two years" headline, is it? It still sucks that we won't see the team's 15th man in game action this season, but it's good to know the front office is learning how to cover themselves on deals of this nature.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Thanks for posting.... the media flip is real. This is a bad contact for Wroten, but good for the Knicks. Just a testament to how bad he wanted to play for the Knicks. Rumble young man rumble

or that no one else really wanted him based on his track record (so we were in the driver seat).

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

This is a solid deal. We get to see what Wroten can do here, with no over commitment. I like it. I hope he can get healthy and get a real shot to play here next year.

Yeah, I guess this must be Steve Mills doing. We sure as fuhuck know it couldn't be Phil.

Low risk signing. Not sure if he's even bench material, but we'll see in Summer league.

If you have to wonder then you haven't even tried to look and see what the kid is capable of even as a flawed player!

There are no guarantees but you can see the kind of potential that is there if you can coach this kid up and develop him further.

please keep in mind that all of those wonderful highlights are BEFORE he tore his ACL (a 2nd time)

This is true. The knee is a major concern, but that's why he's on a low risk contract. If he can regain his knee strength then he could be a very good option. This kid needs to be coached up a lot and I hope he is getting the attention he needs now for his rehab. This isn't an instant upgrade. I view him as someone we can look at no different than any of our other young prospects. A little patience may be necessary.

we just need to set very low to non-existent expectations. That is what it looks like the knicks did with that contract.
