* Happy Easter (Up real early with the kids) *

Is that it has allowed Porzingis in his very early part of his career, very unexpectedly, to be this team's 2nd option. While he isn't there on a consistent basis, if Melo had a star guard next to him right now, the two of them would be dominating the plays and the team may have been a few wins better and pushing the playoff 8th or 7th spot, but Porzingis may not have had the same opportunities he has had this season. There's many games where KP winds up with a ton of shots, when he is still a developing player. This is in large part because of the limitation in what Sasha, Calderon, Jose, Grant and Gallo can bring.

I know many want to criticize Phil for how he built the team and the Triangle, but it's allowed KP to really become a special rookie. The Knicks have been somewhat competitive in comparison to last year and also gotten Porzingis far more minutes to develop and a big role in the offense. He's 2nd on the team in both shot attempts and points per game. I promise you if Porzingis were playing on a team with a star point guard and Melo, he'd be more effecient, but his catches and shot attempts would be much more of the cut/roll/wide open spot ups type. This team looks for Porzingis, and treats him as a big part of the team. Sasha, Jose, Melo, they all know he's the 2nd option. Rambis has even moved Afflalo to the bench and since then Porzingis has been allowed even more of a spurt in his offensive production.

In the short term not having a star guard has hurt us in wins and losses. In regards to Porzingis, his development and the longterm, I think a few years from now we'll look back at this season and both KP and us Knick fans will say "Thank heavens he played with unselfish veterans like Sasha, Jose, Melo who took him under his wing".

The star guard thing is overrated. You want someone who plays defense and distributes and knocks down open looks. Those are the ideal guards they get everyone involved and keep everyone happy. The best star guard the Knicks have had was JKidd. Players love to play along side a guard that is pass first it keeps them in the game. You go back to the Charlie Ward he was a good guard no star but he was good defensively and ran the system he put others getting numbers over his.

So, Porzingis growth would have been stunted if we had Chris Paul, Westbrook, or Lillard, and he's better off by having Calderon and Sasha? Wow.

If we had that star guard it might take some shots away from KP but it would of given him much more chances to work on his post game/inside game which is where he needs the most work anyway so not having that star guard isn't a good thing. His outside shot is just fine and isn't going anywhere so i don't thing your argument is that great really.

Concept of the post is interesting...KP kind of being thrust into a significant role that he might not have been in if we had a better backcourt.

I think you can make a case that a good facilitator might have put KP into a less featured role, BUT the looks he did get might be superior to what he's gotten this year. Fewer shot attempts, perhaps, but better efficiency.

We all have commented during the year when guards have missed an open KP at one time or another, and sometimes it has been frustrating.

One think that has not developed this season is a good playing relationship between KP and Grant, where they build up a set of plays together where both can read each others minds.

On the other hand, KP might not benefit from the pick and roll/pop opportunities other bigs get because of the Triangle, even if we had better guards.

I've seen enough from KP this year to know that he has a game which transcends system BB, and he'll be able to adapt to any system he plays in. I just want him to play relaxed, confident, and decisive ball. I think he's had a good learning experience this year, and we should see a lot of improvement from him next year.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?
