How can you not want a guy that's proven as a head coach and genuinely wants to be in New York coaching the New York Knicks?? Give the job to Thibs with the agreement that he keeps Rambis on as his top assistant to help with the offense/triangle.

Why should Thibbs be forced to keep Rambis? Thibbs has an understanding of the trinagle and certainly is a solid enough coach to bring his own staff aboard.

I think keeping Rambis might be a job requirement if someone new is brought in.

That would be a disgrace for an established coach.

You are right but Kurt might be the new Herb.

phil needs to give the new coach more freedom. I doubt thibs takes the job UNLESS he has control of his staff and his own system

If Thibs wants this job as bad as it sounds which we don't even know if it's true that he wants it that bad then he might not even have to be forced to keep on Rambis, it could just be suggested or asked of him and he might be fine with it because he wants the job so bad "supposedly". I actually not only wouldn't mind a Thibs/Rambis head coach/top assistant combo but i think it would be a good combo for the Knicks.

I also don't think Rambis is doing a horrible job with these Knicks and think with some talent he might actually be pretty good but i'd rather Thibs and maybe even Luke Walton or Scotty Brooks.

Rambis has coached under Phil Jackson, Mike D'Antoni and Del Harris. He's not a newbie. I think any head coach would be fine with having him on the roster so long as he was secure about his job. If it's someone who is just starting his coaching career, I don't think they'd feel comfortable with Kurt. If it's someone established like Thibodeau, I don't see that as a problem. He was on D'Antoni's coaching roster in 2013-14, I read it on his Wikipedia page.

Phil should definitely consider a Thibodeau/Rambis pairing, but I'm still holding out hope that Jackson is willing to coach himself if Rambis is staying on. I can't see a situation where Phil Jackson can present a better sales pitch to free agents than with him as coach and in terms of a coach who understands the way to insert the Triangle offense to utilize as an asset to the team, it doesn't get better than Phil.

I like Thibs a ton, not sure how he would mesh with Melo, Dolan and Phil. That's many different personalities there. Thibs is a straight forward guy, who demands his team play a high level of defense. He would have a strategic approach that is quite different from Phil's, and he's already have been rumored to not have a good relationship with Dolan. I don't see it happening.

There's a much much bigger chance of Thibs being the next coach than Phil coaching.

Thibs loves Melo and always praises him. I think he was the biggest reason Melo even considered the Bulls. They have a close connection because of the Olympics. In regards to how he meshes with ownership and the front office, I think Dolan lets Phil and Thibs handle that. I am not sure that Phil would be comfortable stepping back to let Thibs coach the way he would want. I think Phil's desire to communicate and to some extent control how the Knicks play and are coached makes a Thibs hire very unlikely. No way Phil coaches again.
