B.Windhorst just said on espn that the Knicks were winners at the trade deadline not only because they didn't make any moves that would of hurt them by trading draft picks but because Memphis is clearly going to be rebuilding and he doesn't think M.Conley will want to stick around for a rebuild. So again.....is Conley that missing piece the Knicks need in the off Season??

Im glad we didnt trade any picks BUT i wouldnt say we are winners. At least last season we added a few 2nd rounders. We have zero picks this year

not a super fan

conley only for modest money and limited term

4 year deal means hes old and overpaid on the tail end -- our past problems

also he's not that long

I really flop on this. I dont see him as being worth the money it will take to get him here. However he is a very very good player and I do believe he would move the needle drastically.

I think if we can get him we have to. Then your next goal is to find his replacement. Maybe it ends up being Grant. Maybe its someone else we draft or comes from another source. Even if Conley's play drops some during his contract he will still have good value. He's a 2-way PG who is good at everything. There will be options to move him if/when his replacement is ready to step in.

For example if Westbrook is serious about coming here I have no doubt we could move Conley to another team (everyone will have cap space making matching money a non issue).

Dont love the deal, but I would jump in. Gets us closer and barring injury is a moveable player

I am very happy that we not only didn't trade future assets such as picks, but also held onto Hernangomez. I think he's going to be a beast for us next year.
The new new core: Randle, RJ, IQ. Maybe Mitch. Future pick. Future trade. Future FA.

I agree. He's got another year on the RealMadrid contract but I keep reading they know they are losing him, so perhaps the buyout is acceptable. Also he's KP's best buddy from that team. I like that. Chemistry.

This. Also, how about Doc stepping up to take over Billy King's role. WTF was that first rounder included for to move an expiring contract for another expiring contract? I wonder if Phil should sign Nate Rob to a deal that has a team option for next year to see if Doc gives up something to get him back on draft night.

he would. Only a fool would suggest otherwise. The trap to avoid is paying a guy what he is worth to YOU, rather than he is worth PERIOD. Knicks really need him... is he a max player? We really giving him what Melo is being paid? Yikes... but damn if we dont need him

Conley isn't a sexy name but it would be an upgrade. Now the real question is what other options are there that might be more appealing? Some guys are just too old or not even worth considering. I've put them in Brown. I've included all guards since really IMO we'll be in the market for both. Just looking over the list it's not a very inspiring selection but there are a few intriguing players. Conley is gonna be one of the top targets if you really look at the guys that are available.

I would love to get Conley. I don't want to max him out, but I would go as high as 4yr/$80M. I think a max for him from a non-Grizzlies team is 4yr/$100M or more. Grizzlies can give him something insane like 5yr $130M. I highly doubt he leaves the Grizzlies, but who knows.

I like Conley, but I would much rather wait for Westbrook. Get a serviceable PG for next season and offer Westbrook a boat load of money the season after

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

I wonder how people would feel about Melo staying around if the Knicks were to somehow add Conley this summer and Durant the next?

I don't think you have to look much further then Rondo's recent comments to get a read on how guards view playing in the triangle. Knicks are going to have a hard time signing UFA's and should probably look to buy a late 1st and early 2nd rd pick to solve their guard depth problems. Guards in that range will have their flaws (like they can't shoot), but we will probably need to build a PG from within. I am definitely not giving up on Grant, we really need him to take the next step. I am looking forward to the 2017 draft. Knicks should maintain their cap flexibility and spend a few years building through the draft. If Melo wants to stick around for that, well then good on ya' bro.

Rondo hates systems, he wants to be free-wheeling. Conley has played in a system with the Grizzlies. I think it'll be greatly dependent on the guard and their individual personality. I think it is sort of nuts to put Rondo and Conley in the same box as people. They're wildly different personalities.

Seems like Rolo and Afflalo wanted to play with Melo.

Which free agent was out there last summer that you would've wanted?

Taking out of the equation the ridiculous RFA's people thought we had a chance at (we didn't have a chance at any RFA, as Orlando demonstrated - even if you don't want the guy like Tobias Harris, you sign him and trade him for assets later) - there was no chance Draymond Green was coming here as an RFA off a championship as some people here suggested. Or that Chicago would let Jimmy Butler go, as some people here suggested.

Porzingis is the bigger attraction IMO.

Agree completely. But Melo playing well and sharing the ball is also an attraction.
