Howard is 30, declining and about to enter free agency as the cap spikes to around $92 million -- the new estimate lots of teams are using after the league initially projected an $89 million ceiling for next season.

So I think that means the Knicks will have more like $21M in cap space even if DWill and AAA opt in.

what this basically means is that this summer (and the next), the knicks will be competing with other teams that ALSO have money. in those situations, the knicks CANT compete - high nyc taxes, dolan, weather etc. However, if we SAVE our money until 2018 when the cap stops rising, then the knicks will be one of the few teams WITH money to spend
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Knicks have one of the rising young stars of the league, which is attractive. I think most NBA players want a situation where they can win and look good doing it.

I worry the Triangle is a bigger detractor than any of the factors you mentioned.

But, yes, almost every team will have cap room this summer, which means almost every FA will be wildly overpaid.

Yeah, that's been the projection for a while. But $92M is higher than we've ever heard for this coming summer.

Here's what a five year Lebron contract would look like if he signs this summer. If he signs another one year deal and does a five year deal next summer his year 1 salary could be over $35M with a 109M cap.

Dragic, Mike Conley, KD and others have said that they would consider the Knicks and the Triangle wasn't an issue. I think they care more about the Money, KP, Melo and NY. It's a good landing spot if you look at the potential of KP. It's gonna really be important to end the season strong so that the team shows it's on the rise as opposed to floundering.

Speaking of Mike Conley - here's the contract the Knicks will need to offer him. Cue the outrage!

IF we trade melo for pieces/draft picks and D Lee expiring contract. I think we would have 37 million to spend this off season = Conley and KD

They'd have to free up around $52M in cap room to offer both KD and Conley max deals.

If AA and D Will don't take options, that may get us close

Man, screw that. Conley isn't worth it and will be declining soon.

That kind of money is worth 2 players like Jeff Teague and someone else. Phil Jackson seems kind of cheap and isn't trying to go over the cap space for the Knicks. Conley will most likely look for a no trade clause and that's also gonna be a no deal for phil. Too risky

I don't get why the nba is making such ever increasing amounts of money- the past couple of seasons have been quite dull and exciting rivalries between players and teams are few and far between. Maybe it's just me being grumpy due to the knicks sucking during that time frame, but I still find it odd that business is booming so much.

no move is better than a bad one. I wouldn't max out a guy who should be the 3rd or 4th option. He's a really good player at his current price. $20mm a year plus? Not so much.

I would keep working the farm system. Keep pumping up KP. The 2017 FA class is worth saving for. I mean I have no problem with the goal being to surround Melo/KP with enough role players to make the playoffs next year and that's it. If the Knicks are smart they could add two max level FAs to go with Melo/KP after next year. Obviously Melo's game will be in decline, but he becomes the 3rd option if you add Westbrook and another beast.

What the hell do know? Maybe Conley pops and is a better mature player than an younger one. Who knows.

so what no one is coming here. Its going to be 2 more seasons before this team is any good. We need to tank again next season

Yeah, I hear the weather is great in Sacramento. Lots of FA's want to go there, right? The weather? Really?

Max Player: "hey hey, agent man, what's the word?"
Agent: "well, we got Houston, OKC, NYC and SacTown on the line"
Max Player: "no, no NYC! I hear it rains there alot and there's snow sometimes!"
Agent: "dude, we're talking about NYC, you know, largest city in America? And most people with tens of millions pay people to shovel snow, most folks go indoors when it's raining, and there's this thing called "heat" that you turn on..."
