Clearly the way to go is to make sure you have 7 snipers on the roster, and 4 on the floor at all times. The first 20 shot attempts in the rookie challenge were 3 pointers, 20 of the first 23 shot attempts in the all star game we 3 pointers. I actually placed a bet with my cuz, that the first 15 shots would be 3's. I lost because only 13 out of the first 15 were actually 3's.

The west took 80 3 point attempts for the game ( i know its a zero defense game/ shoot around type of flow) in a real game, where teams take 80 to 90 shots per game, that would have been the entire game.

Until they change the rules of the game and do something to encourage mid range and drives to the basket, you better make sure that 85% of your roster is super atheletic or can knock down 3's at a high rate, or you have a only a small shot at winning consitently, and no chance at winning a title.

The best argument for Jimmer is that he is WAAAAAAAAY more aggressive offensively than Jose. He will not turn down open shots at the same rate as Jose or Jerian. We really do look a lot different when Jose is aggressive but that's like waiting for the Blood Moon. He just isn't aggressive enough. Also tho Jimmer uses the floater which i've been begging for our guards to learn how to use. That is one way for a smaller guard or really any guard to be effective against shot blocking. Jerian misses a lot of his layups cuz he really should've just taken the floater instead but he doesn't have that in-between game and he doesn't have the 3pt shot yet so it makes him easier to defend. Jimmer isn't more athletic than Jerian but he has the 3pt and floater to use as a weapon. Jimmer also has a nice mid range shot too so there's that.

Sorry...but there is no way that you can reach ANY conclusions from the All-Star "exhibition."

If you want to look at what GS is doing...fine- but they are a special team, and you would be foolish to think that what they are doing can be easily duplicated. Most teams, even those who shoot a lot of 3s, don't have the chemistry and movement that team has- they (not GS!)play dumbed down games designed to make is easy for players who are rushed too soon to the NBA to fit into an offense without thinking too much.

Saw the Rising Stars game, and it was arguably the most boring game I've watched...I assume that the big boys game was similar, but I did not watch it.

You want a well rounded team on the offensive end, and the 3 pt shot is an important part of any offense, but if the NBA ever becomes a league where 90% of the shots come from 3 on a regular basis, I will probably stop watching, although I expect that the Competition Committee would look to move the line back/shrink the 3 point area.

Great post. I completely agree. They changed the rules to force everybody to the perimeter so it will be hard to win not using that style unless they change the way the game is officiated and there isn't much of a sign that will happen. The casual fan seems to enjoy this even though it's pretty bad basketball IMO. Until people get bored with this style, I don't see them changing it.

Unfortunately...I expect that you are right.

I agree about the 3 ball assessment, the game has changed and the triangle MUST be adjusted to fit the changes. We need a couple more guys who can shoot the three. However, shooting and pushing the tempo go together. Precisely why we MUST FIX the PG position. We already have a stretch 4 in KP who can shoot the three and a couple of role players in Langston and Lance who can also shoot the 3
Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

Good point on the ASG not showing anything. 3pt shootout ball is valid bc of the points you mention. I agree if 3pt attempts go up it will become unwatchable.

Exactly, we will never win at the pace we play at, i don't care if we had a all start roster line up. Walking the ball up court, letting the oppossing defense set, shooting under 44%. You will struggle to win evry night.

I've always said that every point guard should have a floater just like every big man should have a hook shot. I can't figure out why we just don't give Jimmer or T.Wroten a shot. I just don't understand it but Phil has his reasons which nobody knows so i trust his reasons are good reasons.

so you will ripped melo apart for being a one way scoring machine that plays d went he wants (up until this season), but were begging phil to give jimmer a shot when he is probably the worst fender in the d league..score 30, give up 30, how does that help us?

It's strange you word it that way, "give them a shot". For one, Wroten doesn't have a shot unless he's at the rim. From 3 feet to the 3 point line, he shoots right around 26%. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/wroteto01.html

Also, while Jimmer may be more aggressive offensively, does he really shoot that well at the NBA level? http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/f/fredeji01.html

Maybe Jimmer has improved?

Anyone notice how the four teams that took the most 3s per game in the playoffs finished last season?

I actually think Jimmer has benefitted from this long DL stint. I think he will actually be somewhat improved shooting and also just being more comfortable in a system where he's been given significant playing time to really gain a lot of confidence in this style of ball. Obviously it doesn't change his weaknesses but I think he'd be a sufficient enough upgrade over having to rely on Jose, Jerian and Sasha.

I'm hoping it doesn't come to having to bring up Jimmer to be honest. I'm hoping for someone more dynamic on both ends than Jimmer. I view Jimmer as kind of a Younger more aggressive version of Jose. Jimmer is still gonna get cooked by NBA PG's. Maybe he's % points better than Jose on D, but not by much. At least he'll try to score on the other end and be more of a threat than Jose or Jerian have been. That does have some significant benefits for this team.

Regarding Wroten, I would like to take a shot with him because I actually don't think jump shooting is the biggest need for this team. I think penetration, kick and drawing fouls is a bigger need. Despite not having a jump shot Wroten is still managing to be very effective at scoring and getting to the rim. Pushing the ball and getting easy buckets is huge. Every time Gallo does it, it's shocking because we get so few fast breaks or drives to the hoop. I think Wroten could be a bit like Shved was, in that Shved was CONSTANTLY attacking the rim and that is very disruptive for a defense. IMO that's the most important missing ingredient but I can understand the 3pt shooting aspect that has a lot of people excited. The thing is that the Knicks have lost a lot of games they should've won because they just don't get enough easy buckets and can't stop opposing PG's!!! The margin for error is just too slim.

Neither Jimmer Wroten, K Martin, Augustine, etc are my concern. At best those guys make the rotation but likely not. Let's address guys who are play 20-40 minutes a night and allow us to compete for Clevelands (and soon Bostons) strength in the EAST. Miami is cooked as Dragic is gone soon, Bosh has recurrent health issues and Wade is 1/2 done. Whiteside to be traded and Winslow is a longer term project than anticipated.
Can Riley rebuild on the run? Sure he can and perhaps they stay above 500. Perhaps not - it's dog track time for show time Riles!
