I hope he takes a long time talking to Thibs this summer.

I sort of think the best case scenario here is that Rambis falls on his face a little and Phil is forced to talk to Thibs.

Yeah, I wonder if this is spin coming out of MSG? I don't know - it's interesting though.

Someone leaked this detail to Broussard in response to the Isola story. Whether it was accurate or not.

Phil Jackson just fired a coach who was a close friend.
He just called out Porzingis in a light way, and challenged him to play better basketball.
He talked about the needs.
He's doing the media and taking the heat now that a big move happened in Fisher being released.

I don't see him going to the Lakers any time soon. He could go there in 2 years, if that happens so be it. I trust in the meantime he'll do everything in the best interests of the franchise. This story has been out there for a while, and it hasn't changed the fact that Phil drafted Porzingis. You draft a talent like Porzingis only if you're looking out for the longterm best interests of the franchise. The moves he's making, all moves for the longterm best interests of the team. If he sets us up right and goes to be with his wife, so be it. I trust he won't screw us along the way. I much rather have Phil for 3 or 4 years, than have some idiot GM who would have traded away our draft picks, signed away max contracts in free agency to players not even close to being max players.

If he leaves then he still will have had a longer tenure than the 3 gms that preceded him. Also, Broussard is often wrong.

Yeah, all that is fair.

I guess I just can't shake the feeling that there was something fishy (no pun intended) about the Fisher firing.

Like maybe it was Dolan who ordered it and Phil is fed up?

We had something like this with Donnie Walsh and D'Antoni - supposedly MDA decided to call it quits on his own. Walsh supposedly supported it. Then Walsh quietly left the team two months later.

I wouldn't be surprised if this firing was a Dolan overreaction. It just doesn't make sense with the whole culture thing Phil was trying to build. I think Phil would've been much more about "the process" as Fisher claimed to be, than about "the business of winning."

Also there is the fact that it comes right after playing Memphis twice in the past three weeks (supposedly Dolan and Phil were very down on the whole Barnes situation. I almost wonder if the whole team was - this 1-10 stretch started and ended with losses to Memphis - both games Melo sat out).

I am getting serious bad vibes on this and I think something funky is going on behind the scenes.

I am not blaming Phil - but I think there may be a larger clash going on behind the scenes that we will find out a lot more about this summer or maybe sooner.

To be honest, if Phil wants out in March 2017, I'd just as soon he leaves now or this summer so we can hire Thibs.

Do you guys really think Rambis or Walton is the guy we can build around for 5-10 years? Without Jackson here, I think they'd falter.

I want a coach who is strong enough and has his own vision. Give me Thibs.

This was always gonna be the problem with Phil being here for a short time and only here part time. How can he really install the sweeping cultural change he wants?

He's done pretty well - I just think it could be a lot better if he were fully committed here. I think the Fisher situation would've gone a lot better, too. I still think Fisher got a raw deal.

I dunno, something just feels fishy with this whole situation. Something feels off. I think Dolan pushed the Fisher firing - the proximity of the Fisher firing to Matt Barnes visiting MSG last Friday feels too close to be coincidental. If that Memphis game had been the 9th win in 10 games, he probably would've been safe, but it was 9Ls in 10games. But I think it is also somewhat interesting that Melo sat out both Memphis games - sort of a vote of no confidence or non-support from him?

Maybe I'm reading too much into this - but it feels fishy.

I think the Media in General has been AWFUL in dealing with Phil and the Knicks. They've never really stopped with all the speculation and accusations. Impugning Phil's honor and intentions, starting with he only took the job for the money claims or he lied to us. Now it's all about him leaving early. I mean in the end it's really just a lot of digs and articles making fun of him with snarky remarks. Very few purely journalistic articles are written or talked about in the media. It's very annoying.

Overall Phil has been doing a pretty good job. This isn't an easy situation. He's taken an incremental approach to rebuilding the credibility of the roster and at least some kind of respectability. Just gotta hope he can do something this month to get this team on track and that he can add a core piece this summer.

I do think the Barnes situation factored heavily into this. He was fired 48hrs after Barnes visited the Garden.

So far he has changed the culture of the team. Melo is buying in. KP is a piece. Rolo looks good. The kid in Spain looks promising. This year he has more work to do.

Firing fisher was probably the right move and he made it. Maybe he should not have hired him but they took a chance and it did not pan out. Fish is not a coach, yet. PJax cut his losses and moved on. Now the attention is all back on him. Some may say that was a smart move.
