If we're not trading Melo, might as well run him into the ground for the remainder of his contract with the right head coach.

Give Thibs a few more players and he'll produce 50 win seasons and a chance to compete STAT.

Does Thibs fit/work if he's paired with a strong "offensive guru" assistant coach?

If the Triangle is the mandatory system, choices will limited for Phil, though.

Hahn also talked about the Jackson/Van Gundy rivalry, and the fact that Thibs is JVG guy.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

Old news. Its about fit. Phil wants a culture. If the thinking changes as far as system basketball is concerned then he had a shot. Phil said he wants system ball so we'll see

This is the first time Thibs has come out publicly that he wants a coaching job with a specific team while all the other candidates names have been bouncing around every time there is a vacancy. Fisher, no experience and anemic win %, Rambis minimal experience and anemic win %, Walton minimal experience etc...

In the press conference Phil talked about getting back to a commitment to defense. Thibs is a winning coach dedicated to defense and he wants the job. So what if he doesn't come from the triangle tree, he is the best candidate available and he wants the job. He gives us instant credibility. Why risk it with the other candidates who have not proven anything in the league. Thibs is a proven winner and needs to get this job.

Thibbs comments were made a while back. It's not like he was interviewed today. That's the media spinning. It's no question that Thibbs is a NY guy. Whether he made the comments today or a few years ago doesn't matter. What matters is what Phil Wants to do. We shall see fairly soon but I just don't want guys to get crazy if Thibbs doesn't come.

Well Rambis is gonna get first crack at securing the permanent job. He's got just 28 games to prove he deserves the job. If he gets this team back on track I'm positive he keeps the job.

I'd love to have Thibs even though he kinda falls into that "retread" category. Really hope it's not Brian Shaw. Phil seems to still be married to the triangle though so most likely will be Rambis or Shaw.

I am all for Thibs. How can you not be. He gets the most out of his team. He was awesome when we had him as an assistant. It's a no brainer decision to me.

The job wasn't available awhile back. The comments are from today. Thibs and Phil could be a winning combo if they could learn to work together. The two of them combined have an unreal winning share as coaches. Thibs needs to update his offensive strategy and back off some and Phil wants someone to run the triangle and improve defensive commitment. This could work. Both Phil and Thibs would have to adapt some, but it could work and Thibs already has the support of his best player, Melo

This is a "must" hire bc he's a top 3 coach. This guy's whole life is basketball.
We'll actually have a coach who's competant to draw up a play during a timeout. Probably the best defensive coach in basketball. Not to mention his ability to develop players.

I am also imagining Phil taking Thibbs on a silent retreat in the Catskills...

Thibs would improve this team's defense a 1000000%. Yes!
Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree

remember that one of the catalysts to jimmy butler being who he is credited to Thibs philosophy and being hard on his players to play defense.

Thibs ran the tire treads off Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah and Luol Deng. All three guys look old beyond their years. He played them all nearly 40 minutes a game for years and pushed them too hard so they had nothing left for the playoffs or were injured. The Bulls offense was always terrible come playoffs time.

He would destroy Melo's knees and maybe KP's too. He is a great defensive coach, but I don't think he is remotely special on offense. I think we'd see a lot of Iso Melo.

He could have triangle guys as assistants (Rambis/Cleamons)

Thibs is from the Riley/JVG coaching tree.

I just don't see Phil bringing in his arch rival.

Thibs was JVG's top assistant. JVG used to openly mock Jackson, calling him Big Chief Triangle.

I just don't see it happening.

WOW, coming from an MSG employee. Maybe Dolan wants Thibs. Thibs would get everyone on the same page in a hurry IMO. No big learning curve to worry about.
