That was a highly effective pick and roll from the top of the key. It was really devastating. Got Drummond in foul trouble. The Knicks couldn't be stopped. I'd love to see Melo and Rolo's stats just from that pick and roll.

I think that is also a pick and roll that could be highly effective with Grant and KP in the second unit. Grant is a pick and roll PG.

Supposedly the pick and roll is part of the Triangle - I think they need to employ a lot more of this. Takes advantage of Rolo's picks and mobility and ability to finish whether with a dunk or a little baby hook.

Rolo last night

11-14fg 26pts 16rebs 2ast

Melo

4-18fg 19pts 11rebs 8ast

- I'd love to know how many of those assists came on the pick and roll. I think he had 2 first half assists and 6 in the second half. I would bet 4-5 of those assists came on the pick and roll with Rolo.

I would like to see this tonight against the Grizzlies. Get Marc Gasol in foul trouble maybe.

It's the weakside action.
Melo wasn't even shooting the ball well.
If they can run more of that stuff in games, they'll be a much much better team on offense.
Not just Melo/Lopez screen&roll, it can be many things in that weakside where there's 2 players - can do multiple plays.

Screen & roll
Screen & pop (Porzingis can do this very well)
Give and go
Weakside wing isolation
Post up and cut to the basket (After making the post drop the player cuts towards the basket)
Pass and relocate

You can use many combo of players in the 2 man game side. Lots of options we have.

Melo/Afflalo
Melo/Lopez
Melo/KP
Grant/KP or Lopez
Calderon/KP or Lopez
DWill/Lopez or KP

We have a very effective group of guys in regards to skills needed for the 2 man game side.

If the sideline Triangle is formed on the other (strong side) gives them maybe less motion in the offense, but more opportunities for spot up 3's or dunks inside if their man goes to the weakside for help defense.

One day Rolo looks like Moses Malone, the next he looks like Greg Kite. That goes for every player on this team. Highly frustrating.

It has to be read and react - exploit the matchups that are in your favor. It won't be Rolo every game, some games it'll be Afflalo or KP or Melo.

But basketball is about exploiting match ups until the other team adjusts. And when they adjust, you adjust.

Knicks have to get better at purposefully hammering these matchups. They're good enough where they should have one in their favor every night at at least one position.
