I don't watch too much outside of Knicks games so I am just clueless on this but do OK4, Towns, Russel, etc. have highlights like this? Unworldly plays that just make you jump out of your seat when you see it in game? Am I missing some YouTubes?

KP seems to have something that boggles the mind about ever 4th or 5th game. 10 feet behind the 3 point line? Done. Dunk over an entire front line? Done. Dream Shake (slow-mo style)? Done. Curl play for a 7-footer? Done. Swat out of nowhere? Done. Come from the other side of the rim and dunk? Done. What am I missing?

More impressed by this than the put-back, because I've been dying to have a DPOY type shot blocker on the Knicks since the Ewing/Camby days...

Towns and OK4 are much more consistent on the offensive end...and Towns is clearly pulling away in the ROY race at this point, IMO.

Strangely enough, the KP phenomena shows us what the general fan seems to look at when evaluating players.

As Knicks' fans, we are always going to look at our guys differently, and I sometimes cringe when our posters minimize the accomplishments of a guy like Towns, but KP6 has been a human highlight reel so far this year, and the ESPN highlight mill and the Twitterverse allow the nation to see this skinny white Euro kid who was embarrassed on draft night, do the Latvian Superman thing in almost every game he plays in, even as he plays with the inconsistency of a rookie and a kid who is clearly still a kid, physically.

I've seen Towns do some pretty special things, but rarely does he do the out of the world stuff we see from KP6, and although Towns is a good shot blocker, he rarely has the spectacular and dramatic blocks we see from Porzingis. The sheer extension and the hand/eye coordination he has for a guy his size is pretty ridiculous.

If we had known KP could do this type of stuff on D before the draft, that crazy "The Case for WCS" thread would have died an early death, since they only thing supposedly in Stein's favor was his shot blocking ability.

I am hoping, though, that Kristaps can become boringly consistent on the offensive end at some point...something that will only happen when he tightens up and simplifies his interior game.

KP's highlight reel should be pretty interesting by the end of the year, but if he can become more consistent the second half of the season and the Knicks can squeeze into the playoffs while the T-Wolves look at another high lottery pick, he should have a shot at ROY.

this is my take. Its normal for ROY to be on a bad team. Simple math... high level prospect coming onto a bad team is going to be allowed to play through his mistakes while being productive. Towns has been #s, but not by a ton. The Wolves started the season well, Rubio was playing amazing ball and they were 8-8 with some very impressive wins. Since starting 8-8 they are 6-24 which is a factor. They are now in the realm of meaningless games.

Meanwhile the Knicks are in a playoff race and KP's role on the Knicks has been pivotal in their turnaround in the win loss column. Towns is an amazing prospect. I outlined the doubts and red flags and he has smashed them all. He's great and whether he wins ROY or not he's a great #1 pick. If the draft was a do-over it would be 1 and 1A between KP/Towns with no wrong choice.

Of course I am biased but I think what KP is doing is more impressive. There is no fly under the radar, focus on fundamentals, etc... KP's production is critical to a fringe playoff team coming off a 17 win season and I think that counts for something.

No they don't, but anyone outside of NY fans will tell you KP only gets attention over the rest of the rookies because he plays for NY. Apparently it has nothing to do with his highlight plays, advanced metrics, or unicorn-like abilities.

jump hook consistency.

Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree

Also, the Knicks are legit trying to win. Minnesota is somewhere between trying to win and develop Towns and Wiggins and Levine. Towns gets a lot more shot attempts during the course of the game than KP.

Though I will say that Towns has the far more polished offensive game. His post moves are silky smooth. KP is a work in progress on that end - but for once, a work in progress who actually is progressing and working his butt at it.

KP is miles ahead of Towns on the defensive end though.

And in terms of "WOW" plays - KP is off the charts compared to any other rookie I've seen.

+1
On the bold you can see the difference between one guy who was allowed to patrol the paint protected by WCS and just create havoc, and the other who was getting pounded and pushed by grown men playing as pros. KP is just so prepped.

and to respond to the topic starter... no. Those highlights arent just good plays. They are other-worldly. Like Beckam's one handed grabs. Like Stanton's 500 foot homers. Like Bo Jackson running over Bosworth and snapping a bat over his knee. They show a level of skill and athleticism that can be called words like elite, special, unique...

Those KP vids are amazing. The best is the Westbrook block. The body control he has in the air and then to actually catch that ball. Insane in the membrane

I expect he's lurking around somewhere... maybe even posting under another name.

Frustrating guy, but I thought he added to the mix. Couldn't give the Latvian much credit for anything other than his height, though.

Got to get Porzingis to give holfresh a jersey and take a photo with him like he did with the little crying Knicks boy.

I miss him. He was so entertaining and of course always on the wrong side of right but stubborn as a mule. He would be leading the charge now of how melo has not changed at all.

so here is what phil is thinking ....
