Is he taking a shot at him? It seems like he's taking a shot. Kings are 14-21... And Phil Jackson was tied to the Kings head job at one point when they were rumored to be headed to Seattle a few years ago.

No - I don't think so.

As Karl was moving into top 5 in wins I believe he was asked what coach he thought he was passing and Karl said something like "well I'm not sure who's #5 but Phil Jackson has to be in there somewhere and I only know this because he's kicked my ass so many times over the years".

I think both Phil and Karl were complimenting each other.

Aha - okay, I remember that. Thanks for the context.

Man, I wish I had a dad or grandad that was working on $60 mil to leave me.

Also a good thing for Phil that Melo's now going to be up for most improved player!

Credit really goes to Clarrence Gaines imo. Maybe once Phil saw him he knew KP was the real deal but by all indications, Gains thought KP was a once in a generation player and an article I read a month or two ago claimed Gaines said he would have taken KP #1. We'll see how that looks in 5 years or so.

Phil hired Gaines and its his ass on the line for the pick. Kudo's to the process that made the pick. Its the scouts job to make their recommendations. Credit really goes to Phil but transparency gives us insight it was an organizational process and who was involved.

Also sounded as if Gaines might have taken KP at #1, and by all accounts, Phil would not have taken KP as the first pick if we had been in the position.

Not even sure he would have taken KP over OK4 if both had been available at 4, either.

Phil had already said in print that if OK4 fallen to 4, he'd be the pick.

We phucking dodged a major league bullet right there. If LA and Philly don't phuck up their drafts, we'd be stuck with him. For all the "organizational process and insight", a shyt ton of luck is involved in landing generational talents like KP in the draft.

you like that article?

According to an NBA source, as much as Jackson’s top adviser, Clarence Gaines Jr., wanted Jackson to take Porzingis even if the Knicks had the No. 1 pick, that wasn’t the way the Zen Master would have gone if it was a choice between the two big men.

According to someone anonymous spouting off about the NBA, Phil would have taken OK4 over KP. Not from a Knicks source, not from Phil, not from Phil's best bud adviser, but just some guy out there.

The reality without the benefit of hindsight is not the same as looking 35 games in with Orange and Blue glasses.

The Reality was we did not have pick no. 1, or 2, or 3 so unless you hear it form the Zenmaster himself, its all conjecture.
With that, I think Minny and Philly did what they were supposed to do. The Lakers wildcard pick of Deangelo Russell was interesting.

Its gonna take few years to really sort out who won the draft so whats the Point? KP fell to us. In all honesty the overwhelming support for Towns at no. 1 and Oka4 no. 2 would have made it hard as a fan to really decipher whom to draft.

KP might win Rook of the year and that would be nice, but he might not be the best player down the road.
