It has been said by me that the best deals are sometimes the ones you dont make (OK it may have been said once or twice by someone else) but the point is clear. Maybe if we dont trade FWill, KT, Sweets, TT and give them a chance to play together for a few month we will have the 45-50 win team if Houston is reasonably healthy. The potential is there. What's more we preserve our expiring contracts which increase in value the closer we get to the end of them. Maybe throw the MLE at Swift and add him to the bunch, let Ariza play a few minutes too.

Now if we can pawn moochie, Deke, Anderson, Othella and maybe even Penny off on some team with a budding Layden as a GM for a rather large, athletic, talented young stud.........

Isiah should be patient. He has let teams know what is in play, and let it come to us.

Damp need not come here.

but I would like to open roster spots for younger players.

Im also ok with Baker playing for a year. There will be other players available and we can be in a better position with time.

This team as built right now is at best a 45 win team, and at worst can fall below .500. TT is crap so is Mohammed, both are not quality starters. Houston is a question mark. What we got is Marbury, Sweetney and FW, Penny is a nice backup. Ariza will not play his rook year at all. The rest of the team is just dead weight. Its either we do major trades or next season is just a transitional period towards 2007 when we finally shed Houston's money and the rest of the horrible deals we got on the roster.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Lets be real, even with damp, we are not over the top with other East elite teams. We are a playoff team, and as Isiah said, he was happy 2 weeks ago with roster.

Better to transition then load up now on marginal players. Damp on Indy makes them more complete. Damp on Knicks does help, but we are not there.

We have a lot of crap on the team now. Even with craw, we just trade crap for crap.

I had posted earlier that we're not the only one's with expiring deals so I am not so sure these deals become any more valuable near the trade deadline

Were the knx not a .500 team after the trades last year? Wouldn't a healthy Houston mean 3-5 games over the course of the season. Having a contributing Sweetney for a whole (rather than a half season) mean 2 games maybe even more. Shouldn't having Steph for a whole season knowing the team and players should mean at least 2-3 games? That brings us to 45 games+

Counting on Houston for anything is not a good idea. I'm not sure his horrednous defense, reboudning and passing don't make his presene a wash or a negative effect on the team alltogeher. We have been a lottery team when Houston was our major player, ofcosre not all his fault, but def there is a coinsidence there. He makes players around him worse not better if anything. One dimenaial shooter who can't guard there gradma tend to do that. As for the rest, I don't know, Sweetney might break out, but I hate having to rely on TT for anything. He is one of the softers players in the leage and checks out of games with broken nails and other "seroius" injuries. I dunno, maybe I'm being to pessimistic but this roster does not make me happy. Are we a playoff team, yes, are we gettin out of the 1st round, def not. Marbury is the one bright spot along with Sweetney, I just wish we could move all the dead weight somehow.

Although I would like to make some moves (I think everyone is restless, seeing all the players going back and forth), maybe staying put isnt the worst thing. Wait for the contracts to come off the books and develop frank, stephon, sweetney. ariza will be a 6th man type of player in my opinion, which is important. work on nazr and resign him cheap, and then when salaries come off go after one or two big free agents. we need to develop our young players while staying competitive, like indiana.

About Houston... He's not a defender, a rebounder or a passer. He doesn't penetrate nearly as good as someone as athletic as he is should. But he CAN shoot the ball. He's the best shooter in the game... Some describe him as the "purest" shooter (if that means anything at all; ie Reggie). So in effect, he's a role player. He's the highest paid roll player in the league and probably all time. He can't lead a team, but he can make shots. If you think of him that way, you won't get pissed off.

I feel he will be the last remnent of the age of Layden. Layden really put the carrage in front of the horse when he gave him that contract. Put Houston on the same team with a player like a Duncan or a Shaq and you can see just how effective a role player Houston can be.

Most of the posters seem to undervalue Houston and his talents. It is conceded that he is one of the best shooters in the league. He has shown to be more-a clutch shooter who gets off his own shot. Yes, he doesn't use his ability to go to the hoop as much as he should but when he does, he is effective. While he was a poor defender, he had become decent against most and is better when there is a flyswatter in back of him so he can cheat a bit.

Houston blows, I'm sorry but he is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with the Layden built Knicks. A soft one dimensonal player with no heart who thinks he is the man and refuses to improve his game in his ridiculous arrogance.
