Melo is playing better team ball too. I am one who did not think he could do it. However, so far he seems to be leading. Good job by him so far this year.

Impressive stretch of all around play. The shooting % will vary but his effort is there every night and that cant be taken for granted in the NBA .

He is playing better no doubt.
I'd like to see less of him posting up though. More from the perimeter, even though it's a lower percentage shot, it's what the team needs badly right now, a guard from outside.

Those numbers are fantastic for Melo and would represent career highs in rebounds and assists and shooting percentage.

He's playing great. And playing team ball. And defense.

Playing well BUT needs to be more consistent throughout the rest of the season.

No surprise. A lot of us knew he would break out soon. Coming off an injury, it's common sense.

He's the single most consistent player on the team. He's getting better because he's getting back into game shape after an injury that kept him away from basketball for six months from February to August.

Yeah, he's a high-volume shooter, but is generally very consistent.

Herring is one of the best in terms of just being fair and honest. He is so far from Berman that it's not even funny. Herring takes his job much more seriously than Berman.

Melo has been really playing great Team Ball. In time it's all going to come together for this team. You can see the teams best players are starting to really gel and Fish is slowly starting to recognize his best players and use them better. He still has work to do on his lineups but if he can keep a similar pattern to the last game with perhaps a bit more KP than we saw I think things will really improve.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Try watching some other games around the league and let me know how many guys do this.

Watching the Cavs / GSW game on Christmas - Lebron was having a very Melo-ish game. Trying to lead his team back, but making little mistakes when they had no margin for error if they were gonna tie it or win it. You know why it looked like a Melo game to me? Because it's what it looks like when a star is trying to lead a team with less talent to victory against more talented opposition.

A lot of guys want Melo to be a point guard, all world defender, etc. He's not a point guard. Repeat - he's not a point guard. But otherwise he's been doing a lot of that this season - defensive tracking stats say he's one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, his rebounding and shotblocking have been great, his passing has been very good. He's passed out in late game situations to guys who have missed wide open threes. In Sacramento he passed out to Afflalo twice in the last 4 minutes and AA bricked both.

A lot of it just comes down to the talent around the star. That's going to impact how late game situations go down. Melo has asked Fisher to involve KP in the late game offense more... so isn't that on Fisher a bit to implement some plays - particularly in the last 4-5 minutes when their offense tends to freeze up. But again - look around the league, a lot of teams have trouble with offense in the last 4-5min. Defenses tighten up, pressure gets raised.

Most sane posters here have agreed the Knicks would be around .500 this season if things went well. They've been around .500 the whole season. They've lost a few close games that the league has later admitted they blew calls on. They're 15-18 and could easily be 18-15.

melo definitely playing better.

I would like to see him cut down on the fancy pass turnovers and what is up with his shot getting blocked at the basket so often?

so here is what phil is thinking ....

I think elevation is one of the last things to come back on a knee injury. He's also 31 now. He's definitely not elevating down low as quickly as he used to

Melo is definitely having issues at the rim but his overall game has been very good and he's trusting his teammates SOOO MUCH MORE than in the past and I think as Fish gets better at setting lineups and the best players continue to gel together we'll see a lot more wins in the near future. Especially after Phil adds some help to the roster which I fully expect him to do in January. Melo is a positive force for this team and if he can play like this for the next few years we'll be in great shape.

One thing is for sure; melo is NOT on a "steep decline" as some have said here. He is fully back to his same impact, and has made necessary adjustments.

I'm really loving what i've been seeing from Melo and he's not even back to playing his best ball yet. You absolutely have to give him credit for really trying to play the right way in this offense especially coming from a guy that has played a certain way his whole time in the NBA. Even the Melo haters have to give him credit for how he's been playing.
