i know some of you guys might not like the per 48 minute stat. i think it is a fair indication of some young talent that just might have been given a chance.

here is a CAREER per 48 minute comparison of a few centres that i really like. cause everyone seems to think damp is a 12 and 12 guy every year, when in actual fact he is more like a 9 and 8 guy..................for 9 mill +.

we will start off with our 2 main hopes

dampier
16.6p, 13.5r, 3b 9 mill

Z
24.4p, 12.7r, 3.12b 14.6 mill

haywood
14p, 11.5r, 3.2b 1.7 mill

gadzuric
14.1p, 13r, 3.7b around 1 mill last year

pryzbila
6.7p, 12.r, 4.4b 3.2 mill

mihm
17p, 12.6r, 2.4b 3.9 mill

lorenzen wright
17.3p, 13.3r, 1.5b 7.1 mill

jeff foster
11.8, 15.4r, 1b 4.3 mill

and just cause i like him

foyle
11.7p, 13r, 4.7b 6.5 mill

my 2 first choices are not damp and Z, but gadzuric and haywood. Z would be 3rd followed by damp, then przybila. gadz is very athletic and haywood is a monster in the paint. both compare quite well with damp in all 3 catagories, for way less money.
just my thoughts.

we can't use per 48 minute stats to compare players fairly...otherwise, guys like Howard Eisley might even look respectable compared to some other starting PG's in the league.

i like both Gadz & Haywood, but neither 1 of those guys are proven as starting calibre players & haven't posted consistent stats over extended minutes over a full season either...that's why they don't make the big bucks...if you could get either of those guys for the bench as a backup, i would be ecstatic...but for a starting C solution, Isiah needs to look at more proven guys like Dampier or Ilgauskas imo.

Gadzuric is an awesome bench/energy player. He would not be as effective over more minutes because he goes all out and is very slight of frame. I really like him as a reserve though.

per 48' stats can be useful but are sometimes deceptive.

T's very hard to sustain an effort for a lot of time, and some players have very gopod stats while coming out of the bench but can't do a lot more with more playing time.

And if Im not mistaken Gadz is still avaliable. Wouldn't he be a good addition as a backup for part of the MLE?

Besides Z & Damps, those guys are not much of an improvement over Nazr.

he WOULD make an excellent addition for the bench...however, i think Isiah is going to use part of the MLE to sign Vin Baker if he lands Jamal Crawford...i've been hearing that he's basically promised to take care of Vin this season to his agent, who is coincidentally also the agent of Jamal Crawford as well.

offensivly..........no, defensivly...........yes, they are huge upgrades. haywood in size if nothing else. they all average about the same points and rebounds so it is a wash, the blocks and athleticism are not n nazr's favour. i do like nazr, i dont want to se him go at all. but i think gadzuric and haywood are a definate improvement over him.

by the way dampier's career numbers are only slightly better than all of the above mentioned 3 players (nazr, haywood and gadzuric). all are between 9 and 5 points, 7 and 5 rebounds and 1-2 blocks in 16 to 25 minutes per game. so if the above $$$$$ is correct we will be paying a 30 year old over 11 million dollars in the fist of a six to seven year contract for 9 points 7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks?????????????????????????

i just cant justify that.

i say if anything we keep nazr and get one of these guys for backup and go for crawford of even vince, before we comit to dampier.

You guys are hopeless. If we go by career averages, then Baker is the man, and Houston will be 17 pts a game scorer despite having just one leg. Please, the per 48 is the most ridiculous stat in the NBA. Using it to compare anything is retarded. It makes effective subs look like superstars. There is a reason guys play the minutes they play. Cause they are not starting quality players. And I'd love to see Mohammed go, he is an undersized center with no defensive ability whatwoever and no touch eitehr, plust questionable finsihign and bad hands. Oh yeah, he is got not footwork either. All he can do is jump a little and rebound. No blockshots, no defense, no offesnive game, what the heck is he good for?
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Nazr showed flashes of brillance- he has good hands

yes, on defense he's looked absolutely lost, like a deer in headlights

Nazr might develop into a servicable center for us- he's certainly not going to erase defensive mistakes- but how many have centers that do?
