There's no way Rose would fit in the Triangle, or Phil Jackson would trade for Rose.
As much as I would be open to a Melo trade for long term prospects, Melo is a much better player than Rose at this point.
I feel Melo/Porzingis do have chemistry. It's the guards and wings that don't have that much chemistry with Porzingis. They often miss him on lobs, mistime a lot of the passes and can't see him open inside or outside. Now Rose may help there, but he'd struggle in the Triangle.
The Knicks don't need a protypical point guard, they need a wing who can play point. Someone who has a lot of wing skills, yet can recognize the open man, make the pass, bring the ball up and initiate. Thing skillsets like Pippen, Odom, Harper, not skillsets like Rose.
Where we're struggling on offense is guys like Afflalo, Thomas, Melo, all 3 are guys that tend to look to shoot then pass too often. The Triangle needs a wing in there who has a pass first mindset or knows how to read a defense and see the openings. To Melo's credit he is trying, but it's not natural.
If a Melo deals happens, I think two things to happen for it to go through. 1) Somewhere he can contend for a ring, because he won't waive the NTC in any other scenario 2) I'd need to get a heck of a prospect back. A deal I thought about a few times was Dragic/Winslow/Johnson for Melo. Miami would have Whiteside/Bosh/Melo/Wade. Dragic's having a bad year but fits in with what the team needs from a point guard in the Triangle. Winslow is an extremely gifted athlete who defends very well, his offense will come with time. And Johnson has been impressive as well. Not sure if Miami would let go of Winslow, but with Wade/Bosh nearing the end of their careers, they need to make a push to make a run.
Still though, at this point, I'd give Melo/Porzingis more time. There's free agency money to spend, and so far Phil Jackson has proven he'll spend it on players that will help right away. I also think the Knicks players around Melo/Porzingis are quite movable in a trade.
