...future with Porzingis as the center piece compare to other Knick eras? How does the excitement compare to the 2012-2013 team that started off the season killing, or the 1999 team's unexpected playoff run, or the 1996 team after the big free agent class, or the 1994 finals team, or even the team when they drafted Ewing compare?

I'm not referring to this team with the makeup it has now, i mean the future of this team with Porzingis as the centerpiece? Do we view a team built around Porzingis as a future

of course we do. yet how and when he will get the keys is kind of murky.

We just can't repeat the sins of the past by trading picks for fading talent. Have a plan, and be patient. Be cool.

Dolan has Phil to sell that to him. I believe Dolan has seen the light and will let it happen. I hope this. It could be still two years before he is a category killer. That's a long time for fans.
Look at some freaking out 6 weeks into this one.

It seems to me that there is more excitement around this team, with Porzingis being one of the next big stars, as there has been in the past, even with a good team like 2012-2013. The future is always brighter than the present, and with a young player who is a top talent, fans have something to believe in even if the production isn't there from the team as a whole. Fans will be perfectly fine not making the playoffs this season, as long as Porzingis continues to show growth. Yet, front offices before Phil tried to trade away draft picks to build a team that would win right away. Interesting how this works.

the problem this franchise has had going back to Ewing & even before Dolan was they (FO & ownership) thought we were 1 piece away from competing, getting over the hump, to the next level- and they made bad decisions.

I don't want to turn this into a trade Melo flame war

But at some point over the next few years, Phil or whomever comes after him, may need to trade someone like Melo to restock, and build out. It could even be this year with someone like Afflalo, Lopez, KOQ, etc.

Sometimes getting ahead requires a step back.

But to the original post - this franchise has a legit future for the first time since Ewing.
