Flirting with .500 has different meanings. One might say Fisher is doing a very good job if you consider the roster turn over adding 9 new players, implementing rookies (one is a bona fide ROY candidate!), and two starting vets coming off bad injuries and had not touched a ball in months!!!

At the same time losing some close games or not finishing strong is the sign of bad coaching. Not just Fisher, but his bling encrusted assistants and the Team president who has more rings than fingers.

Knicks are a good team under achieving
Knicks are work in progress over achieving

I did not put that in because we tend to post based on the current emotions from the last game. Losing is frustrating when the team shows promise at times.
Its why perspective is important. not to running the team, but to me as a fan. You and others can rant and go on about "whats wrong" and if that's your pleasure have at it.
If debating, which is all some of us are doing it sometimes gets lost the progress when we are trying to defend our points.

I am open to the idea that most coaches are managers of talent. Last year we were lacking and Melo played half the season in pain, and half the season on the bench. Same for Jose.

I am open to the idea that our rookies are progressing and that's on coach. I am fully accepting of the idea the Triangle cannot be mastered in one season, but it can progress. After 6 weeks, I expect chaos at times.

I don't think they are over achieving per se, I think they are where they are supposed to be.

KP is better than advertised, and the team is a few games under .500 as predicted by most experts and fans. If they somehow meet .500 or are above it by the end of the season, then you can truly say overachieving.

I'm fine with this season the way it's going. We're truly in a transitional season, as the reins are slowly being passed from Melo as the face of the team and primary option to KP. By the start of next season, KP will be leader and star of this franchise, and we'll be a legit playoff contender. Hopefully by year 3 and 4, we'll be truly competitive for a chip, as Lebron's prime winds down, Melo is finally off the books, and we've added the right complementary pieces around KP.

That's a long road.

I like the idea of taking a step back if a team Melo would want to go to can provide assets that get us there. At the same time a starphuch free agent signing like Durant would make this team very interesting if we can get some back court improvement either by Gallo/Grant step up or some low profile trade.

All the while Fish becomes the coach we think he can grow into and maybe Dwilliams can channel his inner Kwai Leonard/Gerald Wallace and be a good glue guy for us.

After that we can best hope for a year by year improvement and that Phil sets this franchise up right for a long term even after he is gone. That's ok too.

I'm ok with either approach. Durant, even if he's not scoring champion Durant, is a efficient scorer and a willing playmaker for others. Melo, 8 assist but terrible game otherwise, is not a natural playmaker for others. He has to be constantly reminded by the coaching staff and his fellow teammates to dish the rock. For instance, on that Melo Tech, Porzingis was wide open with both arms in the sky ready for the ball to be delivered, but Melo still decided to chuck it up against Matthews grabby defense. KP was on phucking fire in the 4th. Melo only made 1 bucket I think in the 2nd half for 6-18 shooting overall.

Landing Durant (though a long shot), would be a great addition, even if he's not 100%.

Or we can continue to add or change role players around KP...get like a Batum or like a Conley. I'm all for high IQ team oriented 2 way players. NO more ISO Hero Ball players please!
