Carmelo Anthony finally has a wingman with a wingspan and a game.

It was all beautiful to watch Friday night, especially at the start of the third quarter, when the Knicks completely ran the Nets out of the Garden as Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis combined to score their team’s first 14 points of the quarter on the way to a 108-91 bludgeoning of Brooklyn.

One of the bonuses of Porzingis rocking the Garden with this eye-popping start is the big rookie has taken the heat off Anthony in many ways.

Porzingis said Anthony has made life so much easier for him, but the reality is KP has taken pressure off the Knicks’ superstar both on the floor and in the locker room.

Reporters wait for Porzingis now as much as they do Melo.

The fans chant Porzingis’ name. He is becoming the star of the Garden Show. All that is cool with Melo.

Asked about that media crowd around KP’s locker every night, Anthony smiled and said:

“He can have all of it, I’ll give it to him.’’

Share the basketball. Share the attention.

That’s when basketball is played with a winning purpose.

The highlight of that third quarter run was a nifty give-and-go that resulted in an Anthony pass to Porzingis for a dunk.

“I don’t know how they miss him, he’s 7-, 8-feet tall,’’ Anthony joked.

Setting screens and making passes is a new world for Melo.

“That’s just me trying to make the game easier for myself and easier for him,’’ Anthony said. “He’s still leaning. If I can make the game easier for him, I’ll do that.

Anthony finished with 28 points. Porzingis produced his 10th double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. They combined for eight 3-pointers.

“We look for him,’’ Anthony said of Porzingis. “He’s a shot-maker. We talk a lot. I give him a lot of pointers. He asks a lot of questions.’’

Knicks Life is easier for Anthony than it has been in a while and he needs to continue to take advantage of this situation.

Trust is building as the 10-10 Knicks come to the quarter pole of the season.

“I need that, we need that,’’ Anthony said of Porzingis’ tremendous play, along with Arron Afflalo adding 18 points. “That takes the burden off me. Teams can’t load up on me or on [Porzingis].’’

No, they can’t.

“Carmelo is a great shooter,’’ Porzingis said. “They left him open a couple of times and he hit the wide open shots. Then I hit some shots. When he gets hot that draws so much attention and then the other guys can get wide open for good shots to help the team.’’

This KP/Melo Show will be something special if Porzingis continues to play so well.

“At this point, trust is huge,’’ Knicks coach Derek Fisher said. “As trust grows, you see guys do things that maybe they haven’t done before. Be more willing to share the ball. To show more energy on defense. Less can be more. We are seeing signs of it and hopefully we can just keep building on it.’’

Anthony gets a ton of attention from defenses, but defenses can’t ignore Porzingis, who was named the Eastern Conference rookie of the month.

“If they keep trying to make it hard for him,’’ Fisher said of opposing defenses focusing on Anthony. “Everybody else eats.’’

Pass the points all around the Knicks’ dinner table.

Porzingis has great anticipation and ball awareness and he hustles. The Knicks are looking for him.

“A lot of guys haven’t played with a 7-3 guy who can run the floor,’’ Porzingis said. “Whenever I’m open, they pass me the ball. They know I can shoot. If they throw it up they know I will go up and dunk it. So the connection between us and the trust is getting there so I’m going to get more lobs and the ball when I’m open on the perimeter.’’

More weapons.

That’s what it means to have a wingman with a huge wingspan and a game.

Enjoy, this is only going to get better.

Even those avid melo haters have to love hearing sht like this. Obviously Melo is a 12 yr vet, and he's matured a lot, but he has had such a huge impact on the kid, you gotta love it.

I can't understand why some of you are still talking about melo trades, stretch provisions, draft picks and other non sense that doesn't add up.

I give phil all the credit in the world for bring in the righ players, and not the most tallented, I'll also give him credit for change melo's outlook on the game, the same way he did for Mike, and Kobe.

I just know the present and the future looks better with melo than without him.

There was a very good article that discussed really how KP has given the knicks choices and one of them is trading melo but the real crux of that subject was there really was not going to be a great market for him given the salary, his no trade clause, and last of all that nobody is unhappy with him on the knicks, nor is he unhappy here.

Im neutral on Melo. I root for him but am not a Mooby lover. The most natural trading partner is Miami as it could elevate them to contend against Clev in the east and have Deng who could be a short term scorer for us while Winslow develops, or Dragic as a good fit. The longer term ceiling is higher if Winslow fulfills his promise not because Melo lacks talent, but his age. Naturally the few Melo haters get an erection over this and take it to the limit.

Melo supporter but like most fans , I run through trade scenarios and there are really none that would make us better today and very few realistic trades that are assured to make us better in the near future . KP and Melo may be in different phases but they complement each other and that pairing will hopefully provide that competive platform that entice other young impact players in fa to come to NY. I like the idea of pursuing Batum but have dreams of Durant seeing us in a favorable light

The Miami thing makes no sense at all.

Dragic-Wade-Melo-Bosh-Whiteside are impossible for Miami to get under the cap in 2016-2017. It'd be a one year run.

Wade-Melo-Bosh-Whiteside would be damn near impossible.

If the Heat take on Melo, 2 of Dragic, Wade or Whiteside likely have to go, and then what's the point?

They absolutely need each other. It was a whole different team lasdt night cause Melo finally looked like Melo last night and when you have both Melo and KP6 playing the way they can play when they're both on their games and add A.Afflalo to that and the good pieces we have around these guys and these guys are playing pretty darn good defense.......we'll be tough to beat for any team. Just a couple days ago i was reading posts about if Melo is washed up and there's still so many people on here hating on Melo, but he has changed his game and Phil has a lot to do with that. This guy is playing tough defense, he's passing the ball which are two things that have been missing from his game but now he's helping to make the others playing with him better.

I want N.Batum playing with us and having a small ball lineup of:
PG--J.Grant
SG--A.Afflalo
SF--N.Batum
PF--Melo
C--KP6
That lineup could be a really tough lineup to play against. If we could get a lights out shooter to be the sixth man with that lineup..........

You see, im not so concern with what they do on the court, it's off the court, that's where it really starts. The mutual respect, melo's leadership, KP's attitude and respect for the game.

Two things thats really really making this work between them two.

1)KP is so grounded that his new found fame means absolutely nothing to him. He could have 50 points, 20 rebounds 10 blocks, 15 assist, and his post game comments go something like "I STILL NEED TO GET BETTER, AND I JUST WANT TO HELP THE TEAM WIN, THAT'S ALL" fkng priceless

2)Melo has no issue whats so ever in sharing the spotlight, media, knowledge, and teaching him things on and off the court, that's also priceless.

Those 2 things translates to success going forward

One great thing about this season, is the team being talented enough that Melo doesn't feel the need to play hero ball. You can see him trusting his teammates a lot more this season. I still want Melo to go for some late game heroics when necessary, but there are other good options now.
Melo needs KP need each other.
