we keep winning, and he keeps this up - I'd say he deserves it for sure.

Okafor is playing heavy minutes - 32 per game - and I have to imagine that catches up with him.

I have the same concern for KP6, but obviously he is playing less.

Being objective I have to see Towns more. They are in a similar situation... playing much better, having some vets helping the kids and Towns is putting up big numbers. I have really only seen highlights and would like to see him more.

I DVR all the Knick games so I can watch them on my own time. Last night I watched KP every play. I was pretty shocked by how fast he is getting it. His passing and court vision has improved incredibly. He lost his man on defense a couple times, once for a score but the rest of the time he was incredible on defense especially away from the ball. He simply covers an amazing amount of space and is so quick. He almost looks a little slow because of he's simply taller than everyone out there, but he had no problem keeping up with Phili's 6 foot speedy guards laterally. His footwork there is fantastic and he simply blankets you when you drive.

His upside as a scorer is unreal. That midrange jumper off curls cant really be defended and he's pretty silky smooth. He can post smalls set up for easy 3s.

Best of all he's really loved by his teammates. Melo was having a miserable night and I noticed he was the first guy standing and pumping and smiling when KP was putting on his show in the 4th. His teammates love him and the way he plays.

What a gem.

ROY? Im not sure... but he's without a doubt in the running. All star? Very possible. THIS YEAR

In any other year Porzingis would win easily. This year there is much more competition from the rookies. This may be the best rookie class since 2003. KP has a good shot if he keeps playing like this. Okafor obviously is putting up good number and Towns is as good as advertised. Should be very interesting to see how these 3 finish

All good fans see their guy as ROY and no doubt we should be stoked about having one of the top young talents in the NBA!!!
Its a long season with still some 60 games to go.

More important is this "project" has exceeded most expectations. Kudo's to his team, his coach and the culture that is supporting him either it be Mills, Jackson and his family.

In light of Oka4' recent troubles its nice we have a good kid.

He has outplayed all of my frontcourt on my fantasy team. Bosh, Gobert, M.Gasol, Ibaka, Towns over the last 6 games.

both wally and hahn in the postgame remarked that the game has slowed down for him, that he is not in a rush. last night he looked like an allstar. that statline is amazing when you look at it.

6-10 and 2-2 from 3, 3-3 from the line, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 blocks, 75TS%

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

He slowed his release a bit and it helps his shooting. Im sure instinctively playing in the NBA is faster then playing in spain so its normal to feel rushed.

Coaching staff has done a fine job with him. I think Rambis is the big man coach.

Through ~20 games, the stats are insanely close between the two. Towns only has a clear advantage in shooting efficiency, though Porzingis is trending up in that department. Porzingis is also trending way up in blocks, averaging 4blks a game over the past 6 games.

Towns:
minutes per game: 27.4
13.9ppg 9.2rpg 2.2blk .8apg .8stl 50.2%fg 30.0%3ptfg 83.7%ft 51.5%efg

ORTG: 103
DRTG: 97
WS48: .146

Porzingis:
minutes per game: 28.1
13.8ppg 9.3rpg 2.0blk .9apg .7st 43.2%fg 32.7%3pfg 83.1%ft 47.1%efg

ORTG: 105
DRTG: 98
WS48: .148

Also, last 5 games for each show Towns is struggling and Porzingis is improving:

KP last 5:
15.6ppg 10.8rpg 3.4blk

Towns last 5:
8.4ppg 6.0rpg 1.6blk

If you look at the offensive ratings, KP has a slight efficiency advantage. The FG% is lower because of him taking 3s.

There were a few games where Porzingis really forced things on offense - the 5-16fg game against Anthony Davis and the games against the Heat. But he seems to be learning to let the game come to him and when to be aggressive. The game is slowing down for him. Which is crazy considering it is only game 19. You see game to game adjustments and improvement. His passing last night was great - the feed to Robin Lopez for an easy layup is a time he might've forced a shot only two weeks ago.

After the altercation I can't see Okafor winning rookie of the year even if his numbers are great. You have to pay the price for bad press.

I personally think it'll be a race to the wire for both Towns and Porzingis. If the Knicks make the playoffs and KP continues his splendid play than he gets the edge. If he hits the rookie wall, and the team wanes for a bad stretch, then it goes to Towns once he snaps out of his current funk.

Either way, none of the other candidates are even close to sniffing ROY (Okafor, Mudiay, Turner, etc).

L.A. must really feel bummed about their pick. More so than Philly. Kobe would rather crash and burn the franchise down in his swan song, then relinquish the reins to a rookie. Sucks for Russell.

I dont see Porzingis hitting a rookie wall because of his experience playing pro ball in Spain. Hard to say if Towns will drop off. Towns doesn't just rely on his outside shot, he has the makings of a great post player. He has other options if his shot isnt falling. Could be close.

Towns already has. Could be early rookie wall, could be Minny struggling to find identity.

But KP will hit some kind of wall eventually.

Its inevitable.

It's what happened to Jerian, and what seems to have happened to Langston (Sophomore wall).

When it happens, I'm sure there'll be "What's wrong with KP" threads galore.

I think Porzingis wins ROY
