There have been two very nice suprises... Lance and DWill.

While most would agree DWill *could* play like this, he never gave any reason to make people believe. He's engaged, wants to be here, isn't the highest IQ player but talented and playing very hard.

I wanted to and did defend the Lance signing. Only because I know from playing team sports long enough you just need guys who know the system and do their job. However this should be a clear example of how little insight the fans really have. Considering how quickly they resigned him and how bad he was in preseason the coaches knew and stuck with Lance Thomas. His scoring is such a bonus... just taking what the D gives. He really reminds me of Jerome Williams. A little less herky jerky, but two strong guys, can defend either forward spot, never known for offense, but will drop some buckets if you sleep on them... another guy that comes to mind is Bo Outlaw. The best I could say about Lance was hey lets wait and see, and he's making Phil and the coaches look like geniuses.

Grant and KP are talented good players that need NBA experience. Both are helping more than they are hurting and I give the coaching staff credit for getting our future involved in such a meaningful way. We will see plenty of mistakes, but both bring things that can help and the coaches have put these guys in a position to help and succeed, and both are taking advantage. Soooooo exciting for the future of the team!

Gallo... is this our John Starks? From obscurity to cornerstone player? Maybe even makes an AS game one year? Nothing not to love.

Melo. Playing like a superstar in the league again. Having a big impact. If you don't understand the value of this go watch the Washington game again. Nice to see him back at this level, lets keep those minutes in the low 30s!

KOQ is so physical. Im always amazed when I hear he's picked up his 2nd or 3rd foul and its late in the game. I swear I see him drilling guys left and right. God how we have needed that for years!

Rolo, KOQ, Lance... notice there is always some muscle on the floor? This is a Phil thing for sure.

Sasha, Jose. Well... we saw last night who Fisher played at the end of the game. Sasha has legit guile and is tough and chippy. Jose has looked like terrible. Grant is not ready for a bigger role, but it looks like when AA comes back Galloway might just take Jose's minutes. Can anyone see that?
New backcourt: Gallow/AA
bench: Grant, Sasha, Early for smalls and Jose gets benched.

Bottom line is Jose is still needed, but can we stop putting this on Fisher? He played Galloway down the stretch last night and it probably won us the game.

On that...

Coaching has been great. 10 guy are involved. The defensive effort has been high, guys are moving the ball, Melo has certainly shown that. New guys are in a position to succeed. Last night he benches Jose at the end for Galloway and it probably is a key factor in us getting that win.

I have not commented much on Fisher since he's been here. My biggest defense regarding last year was he had nothing to work with, impossible situation...

This year he's been very good, and last night's rotations were excellent. Right guys got more minutes. Fisher has been good these first 3 games. Can we give him ANY credit for Galloway? The only NBA coach he's played for so far? Considering Fisher's calling was grit and guile and fearless play.... the shoe fits?

Excellent post Fishmike! I'd also add that despite not fully clicking on all cylinders this offense has been strong! This team is a top scoring team so far despite not fully gelling or having its best scorers at full strength yet. It's been impressive!

Yeah, I can see that. But I'm a little concerned about AA being able to stay healthy. At some point between now and tomorrow night I'm going to watch last night's game again and pay closer attention to the stretch where Gallo and Calderon were on the floor together, because if AA is unable to keep that hammy from acting up, Fisher might see Gallo and Calderon as an option, having Calderon play more of a SG role, while having a scrappy 'I'm here to piss off and annoy the guys on the other team' Vujacic run with Grant on the 2nd Unit. And like you mentioned, a big part of last night's victory was about who finished versus who started.

I expect Afflalo to eventually get that hammy right. There's so much season left and because they've been able to win it allows them to wait even longer before putting him back in. Gallo can help carry the load for now. If Jerian can get a bit more confident he could also help cover up in the meantime.

there have been some real positives. . However still too early to get too excited or down. Calderon and vucavic are still very worrisome especially against good backcourts

I think we can minimize the damage from Jose by cutting his minutes and Sasha actually has his moments where he plays ok. With Gallo being strong and Jerian actually getting more experienced I think they can hold it down for a while. Despite having some shaky moments I think Jerian has been solid in a lot of ways. He's gotta tighten up his game but I believe in him.

But once Afflalo gets back, hopefully the only time we see sasha is garbage time.

Sasha didn't really look like he was gonna see minutes when Afflalo was able to play. It all depends on what Afflalo can give us.

The players with limited abilities get exposed in NBA when they run into stars of this league.
And there are plenty of players who will abuse Sasha and Lance, and our rookies as well in very brutal way.
This will show out after bigger sample of games.
We get Spurs and LeBron so watch out how our "complimentary" players will do against loaded teams.
Most likely this will not be pretty.
They do their best for sure... but in NBA this may not be good enough.

I don't have much of a problem with Sasha. The problem is that we have to play him more than we should. He is a good off the bench role player. The fact that we got to start him is the real problem. Once AA gets his injury problems behind him you will see the value of Sasha.

yea.. Sasha hasnt been terrible... First game was great actually. He was a big part of the blowout. Last two games he has shot very poorly. Lets see... Im looking for Sasha to play heavy minutes. He's here to spot start and replace guys who are hurt. So far we are 2-1 without our starting SG and with Sasha stepping into that role. This is what you live with when guys get hurt.
