"The Mavericks and the New York Knicks have consummated a six-player trade that sends center Tyson Chandler back to Dallas. The Mavericks completed a trade with the Knicks that was clinched by agreeing to take back the contract of New York's out-of-favor guard Raymond Felton as well. The trade cost Dallas two starters -- point guard Jose Calderon and center Samuel Dalembert -- along with prized young point guard Shane Larkin, reserve guard Wayne Ellington and the 34th and 51st picks in Thursday's draft."

The Knicks took Cleanthony at 34 and Thanasis at 54. We likely would have let Chandler walk in FA this year, so had we not made the move we would still have Felton on the books for one more year ($4.5 MM), plus the savings netted from having Felton instead of Calderon ($2.9 MM) likely would have meant either not signing Seraphin and signing a guy for $5.7 or so, or signing someone of Seraphin's caliber at around $2.9 MM. Instead, we have Calderon ($7.4 MM this year, $7.7 MM next year) plus Early ($845K this year) and Thanasis likely returning to the Westchester Knicks.

It was still a bad trade
I'm happy with Calderon, Early, and Thanasis in Westchester
Ray Felton stinks

Sometimes you have to take steps backwards to go forward. This is one of those moments.

We got younger at center and will get younger at point guard very soon, soon as Fisher sees he's had enough with old as Jose.

The trade itself didn't turn out bad for us. We got some young pieces and a chance to start to build a little earlier thru the draft. I thought Larkin would be better. The problem with this trade is Chandler may have gotten more for us in a different trade.

We got a couple of draft picks which is a forward looking move. Im not sure those picks will pan out but its the try that counts. Taking back Calderon has been nothing short of a disaster and we haven't made a good decision coming into the year to cut bait and worse--hes our starting PG.

So it's a very mixed bag--the trade has had no real value.

Getting 2 picks back was great.

Getting rid of Fatton was awesome.

Getting Calderon sucks but he is better than Fatton.

It's also important to remember without that trade we would have been more competitive last year. Better but not good, and only costing ourselves a higher draft pick. They probably could have traded Chandler for more but it is what it is at this point.

TIming is everything. Lets do a poll after a loss where Jose played bad.
ESPN has "should fisher shake up knicks back court?"

After two games and record 1-1? I don't know, but neither does anyone NOT in the knicks circle of players or coaches!

The trade is not a disaster nor is Jose the reason we are not contending. When the other guys beat him out of the job, it will be a solid decision.

Well said. The Sheridan site went after Phil again for this trade today in an article about Jose with links to Phil's tweets etc. Sheridan comes out seeming small here in my opinion. He continues to try to get back at a guy that could give a sh@t what he thinks and moved on a long time ago.

It was a bad contract to take for a older flawed point guard.
