derek fisher and his staff are going to have a tough time allocating minutes, but during the championship years red holzman played at least ten guys, perhaps more, and there were meaningful minutes. nowadays the spurs do this to great success.

what i'm driving at is this: 82 games means keeping minutes radically lower in order to be competitive and fresh down the stretch, and limited minutes means every player must play 100% on both ends of the court.

tonight's game basically says to me that there are not nine, not ten, but perhaps 11 men that must see meaningful minutes, even if those are only 8-10 minutes a game, and no player should be playing more than 30 minutes a night.

kudos to phil jackson for acquiring guys like williams, seraphin, afflalo, o'quinn, lopez.

as to to the game itself: not much to say except they are not running the triangle very much at all but they are still managing to get results because the ball movement has been very good from everyone, with the exception of some sketchy crosscourt passes that are going to be stolen when opponents study film of the knicks. that and the defensive intensity was dialed up tonight which is very refreshing.

regardless of who starts or not, there are 240 minutes to be allocated. (i did say radical.)

melo 28
afflalo 28
williams 28
lopez 28
porzingis 24
o'quinn 24
grant 24
galloway 20
calderon 18
seraphin 18

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

I feel Sasha will get some minutes...more or less based on his shooting on a particular night.

Also wonder if Early's play will garner him some playing time.

Nice problem for a team to have, though...having so many guys really fighting for rotational minutes.

Anthony will get at least 30MPG, unless we are blowing teams out on a regular basis.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

So the coach implements more his style of play, less triangle resulting in the team playing and looking better..And of course with better talent..Genius..

Knicks have 12 guys that need to play...

Start: Kristaps, Melo, Rolo, Calderón, Affalo
First 5 off the bench: O'Quinn, Williams, Seraphin, Grant, Galloway

It sucks to tell Early he has to sit. He's been playing great on both ends. Sasha has been ok, but I value his leadership and shooting ability.

All I know is Lance Thomas better never get activated. Dude needs to be in dress clothes for the rest of his career here.

Interesting that Summers got minutes before Thanasis and the other rookies. The Knicks wanted this game and I think Fish is still learning how to coach so not auditioning for the fifteenth man makes sense. Who gets that spot will be very interesting. My guess is that that player spends significant time in westchester.

thanasis isnt making this team. lol
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Depth. Mother Nature will sadly deal with the issue as injuries of varying magnitude will invariably set in. I agree that Sasha will see minutes and that Early will as well, as it's a long season. The front court does 60-65% of the scoring and the depth there is refreshing. Allocating minutes among the "bigs" KS, KP, KO, Lopez, Williams and Melo is a problem the Knicks haven't had in awhile. Defensive consistency will rear its head. When we've had OKC, the Warriors, Spurs and Memphis on an away swing, then we will see where the minutes fall. Lopez and Melo get theirs. The rest have to "D up" to get theirs.

Summers seems like an nba player. He should get a shot somewhere. Maybe that's what Fisher was doing for him by playing him down the stretch
